Post "Ida" fishing report

Anglers:

First of all let me say with "Wow" glad that one is over. My deepest regrets goes out to all that had damage to property & boats.

I had delayed the "OU Dream Teams" charter by a day to let "Ida" head out of town. Some critics say that fishing after storms is useless. I have another theory. And Sunday proved that theory correct. I really wanted to be the first out that day and we were the only ones out there until around 0800. My instinct was itching, and I couldnt wait to see what the Nor' Easter had brought us.

We left the inlet at Little Creek at 0' dark thirty and rode a few nice left over swells down to the CBBT. The lights from the bridge shined over the water between the pilings as we arrived. The "Kaylyn" ducted under the bridge and I pointed her into the swells to let the crew get started. Today we had onboard Chuck "Steady Hands" Sheets, Johnny "Shades" Carpenter, Jack "The Processor" Fulton, Andrew "Camera Guru", Capt. Green and myself.

Once the first lure hit the water it was "ON". The fish were starving. They had every right to be, they hadnt had a meal in the last four days due to the storm. I believe you could have tied a "Dog Turd" onto the line and caught fish today. They hit every lure, swim shad, Hogie & Wawa sandwich we threw at them. The guys caught their limit so fast I couldnt believe it. Once the six man limit was in the coffin we practised C&R until we made our way up to the "Tog Hole". Sunday Nov. 15th the crew C&R'd over 126 Fish. Johnny "Shades" brought his O'le Abu and when we put it away it was still smoking. Gonna need some new drags in that one John.!!!

As for the "Tog Hole" they were all in bed asleep must have been wore out from the storm. Rumor has it they were up walking around on the roadway during the Nor' Easter, must have eaten at the Pier Diner also because they werent hungry Sunday.

Monday AM:

Day two of the "Teams" charter and once again this is why they call them the "Dream Team". They wooped up on the Rock Fish today. "Steady Hands" took the boys to school today. Chuck C&R so many fish I stopped counting. It was just awful watching "Steady Hands" work they two other guys that way. Filled the Coffin once again and sent the boys back to OU with "FULL" coolers and ACHING ARMS!!!

Thanks for another great trip guys.

As for the post "Ida" report. I suggest that if you have the chance to fish after a storm take it. Just a few tips for caution.

1. Watch for debris in the water
2. Check your boat out from stem to stern before getting under way.(even if its on land)
3. Make a float plan and stick to it.
4. Take an experienced hand with you.

Enjoy what mother nature has to offer and "CATCH EM UP".

Just a pic of "Steady Hands" until they guys send me the rest.

Enjoy!!!!

Capt.
"Operation Tokoyo Muffin"

Anglers:

My dad has always preached to me "You're not going to be good at everything, but be consistant in everything you do". My dad is unable to fish the 2009 / 2010 "Striper Season due to his health. His will is there, but the body won't allow it. Dad introduced me to fishing at a very young age, had me on the lakes, rivers, ponds every free minute he had and well as I know now every free minute he didnt have. He paved a good path for me. So today its my turn to return the favor, as you read these reports I hope I can fill that void that you did for me!!!! So with your words...."Let's see how consistant you've been today"!!!!!!!!!! Pop's sit back, get better and we'll do it this spring. I'll leave a couple just for you!!!!

What a weekend!!! I actually had to sleep in today to get ready for next weekends new "Mission". I slipped out on Thursday to get a little recon done before so I could put the crews on fish. I arrived at the CBBT and immediately found the fish. They were stacked up along the CBBT eating everything. So I backed out and took dinner home.

Friday: The blow came in and it allowed me to get caught up on some admin & Maint on the boat.

Saturday: With an excellent weather window in the forecast we set sail one last time to see if the "Tokoyo Muffin" was hanging out around the Triangle Wrecks and Hotdog. We departed into calm seas and a rising sun. Got offshore and immediately ran into a large school of "Little Tunny's" high tailing it south.

Once we get our spread out Andrew spots several birds working an area to our north. I turn the boat into the area and the Penn 50 starts screaming. Oh Yeah the "Muffin" has showed. Mason gets the rod and Andrew gets him into a belt, the Mate readies the gaff and the fish is slowing coming in. Then I spot a flash of white. The fish dives, this is no "Tuna" its a .........what is it???........its a "Fat Mahi".......the fish is taking more drag..............then tires.............Mason works it alongside and its a ..................................40" Striper!!!!!!..........You have got to be kidding me. We are trolling 5.5 kts and have a "Green machine" daisey chain hooked up to a "HAWG STRIPER". Get the fish onboard take several pics and release the "Ole Girl" back to live another day.

One message to the fish: DONT COME BY THE CBBT THIS YEAR!!!! YOU WONT BE TREATED THE SAME!!!!!....Love Capt. Scott

Trolled threw several acres of sulphur lines to find the "Muffin" hadnt showed yet or was already in MHC.

So around 1:00 we all decided to run back to the CBBT and work some striper. We'll PETA is going to hate the pics below. These guys brought axes with them. Immediatley they were into the fish. We worked a total of 9 pilings and they guys were limited out and started to play catch and release before calling it a day.

Sunday: We left at 0545 and the plan was to add to the carnage of days past and pay a visit to the "Fine White Meat" of Mr. TOG that lives at the CBBT.

At exactly 0600 we arrive at the CBBT at exactly 0700 the crew has a 5 man limit in the Coffin and released more fish than I faired to count. We worked a total of 3 pilings. Then it was off to "Toggin". We'll since the tide has been very high for the last few weeks, nobody has any fiddler crabs, so we had to switch over to sand fleas. In a short story......"They dont work like FC's". The crew found 3 very nice size "Tog" and we were back at the dock at 10:00.

Great Day with a "Great Crew".

Just a side note: You will be seeing Andrew K onboard for a while. Todays crew was "Big Man Colt" Phil and myself. The guys navigated the crack and we powered up enroute to the Tuna grounds. The temps were 55 degrees inland and Phil found the temp break at exactly where Capt. Tony from SST said it would be. (Thanks for the Intel Tony). 79.6 all day long!!

Immediately upon arrival "Colt" gets the shotgun out and while we are rigging the rest "BAM" GAME ON!!! The friggin 80 is screaming like a mad man. "Colt" is trying to hand it over to me and "Snap" Game end. We get the gear back out and its on again. This time it comes tight and "Colt" muscles the first yellowfin to the boat and I sink the steal to complete the deal. Pick up another Tuna and this time its a blackfin. The the rest of the morning its small blackfin and fat alberts.

Find a great slick and pick up a gaffer mahi out of it. I started at the spine of the 1st island and worked across it heading towards the 2nd. Jiggin the bottom and found them. We kept our limit and released several slot fish. After the sun comes up, the fish are hovering down deep right now. But they can be caught, it just takes a little finesse.

SATURDAY:

Had a half day "Make Up" charter and they "Spanked their Asses". If your against catching, keeping, and eating fish. DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER.

Started at the small boat channel at the CBBT and as soon as the lures hit the water. "GAME ON". It didnt stop. We saw a weather window for Thursday and took advantage of it. Left Little Creek at 0500 enroute to the Fingers and planned on heading to the canyon after that. Dropped into a weedline that was trying to form and picked up a few "Fat Alberts" and kept one for dinner. Trolled due east and found one hungry mahi. After that it slowed down.

We decided to head inshore and fish the rest of the afternoon looking for a bottom bite. "Squeak" and the mate worked the bottom and found some nice flatties that were hungry. The guys worked the CBBT and found several flounder in the 18-18.5" that were thrown back. In total they kept two fish that were 22&24".

Friday& Saturday: Were bottom trips. The guys wanted flounder and trigger and they found them. The bite on the bottom at the CBBT was good with several quality fish taken. Flounder, Black Sea Bass, Trigger, and Speckled Trout went to the "Coffin".

Sunday: "Opening Day 2009" was very productive. Started out with light tackle casting to the rocks and the guys limited out in good time. Spent the rest for the day looking for larger fish over the tubes for C&R and when the bite turns off, it turns off.

The last four days is a perfect example of what the Chesapeake Bay and Offshore waters of Virginia have to offer. The guys took home a large variety of fish this past weekend and I truly enjoyed the time on the water with a "Great Crew".

I still have some great dates available and will be running "Make Up" charters again the weekend of Oct. 17th & 18th.

Stay tuned for more info coming at the end of the week.

Pics attached please enjoy!!!!!

Tight Lines.....Capt.
Rudee Angler 36 Hour Report

Our first 36 hour trip of 2009 was a great trip! We started out Saturday morning will thunderstorms in the distance and southwest winds around 15 knots, with the promise of better weather to come. We fished a few wrecks to start out the day catching some very nice sea bass. Then it was off to the deep. Plenty of black belly rose fish and some barrel fish and hake mixed in. Sadly to say we did not have any bites that night, other then eels. The next morning we were on the rose fish again with more barrel fish. With everyone exhausted from the deep water. We headed for the blueline tiles, where we had decent action with several citations. At the end of the day we decided the head to one more wreck on the way in. Jackpot!!!!! Big sea bass!! What a great way to finish a great trip.

Looking forward to our next trip!!

Been a while since last trip out for Seabass and Tilefish. We limited out on seabass in the 3-4 pound range. They bit good at almost every stop we made. Also caught nice gaffer dolphin and caught nice Blueline Tiles. Did not see another boat all day except Joe Delcampo on his boat Another Story setting and hauling seabass pots around the wrecks I was fishing. Not much pressure on the fishery now. We had one citation blueline at 10#13 oz.
