Rock'nRobin Hot Dog Report Shakedown trip

After a late start (around 6:30am) we slugged it out for about 2 ˝ hours running southeast. We (Split Shot-BK and I) only made it about 23 miles short of the Cigar, but had plenty of flying fish around and good water so we stopped the pounding and put the spread out. This was the first offshore trip since the Rock’nRobin had the stern enclosed and a bracket installed. They boat ran great, but we suffered from rough conditions, crappy ballyhoo, constant weeds, and tackle malfunctions. Mother Ocean knew I had been gone way too long! We fished east of the Dog and it was very slow. Talked to Hang time and Nauti-Gal (thanks for the heads up on my truck lights). Its tough to run a different boat lay out but Blake did and awesome job in the Pit. We had three knock downs in heavy weeds, most likely Mahi, but the never came tight. Later in the day we picked up two smaller Chickens to lose the skunk. The winds died a little too late for us but it was a good shakedown before the tourney. Heard about Keith’s grand slam and talked to Bob at the ramp, pretty work boys!! I hope the weather improves for Friday.

You should have seen Bob out there, he was in the shallow water catching the big YFT. dry.gif

Sounds like a pretty good shakedown Mike! And no skunk! I'm sure you're gonna kill 'em next weekend; I'm lookin' forward to comin' down and seein' everyone.

Can't wait to see the new rear end on RocknRobin (um.. your boat!).

Did I hear that you're fishing both days in the tourney?! I think we might have to implement a side bet between Teams Wired Up 1 and 2!

See you next weekend!

Mike,
Glad you guys were able to make it out; you deserved to catch if you took a pounding like we were. After returning to the dock from Cape Henry to remove the dead weight, aka "Chum machine", we gave up on making it offshore. Good luck next weekend.

Mike,

The new boat set up is sweet and she ran great, especially in that slop.

Thanks for the overly kind words on my "pit running" but I know I was lagging - hard. I didn't know what to do with all that room in the back?! I'm used to running all the lines while standing in the same place in my little pit. HA~

Still, as always, it was a good time & I think we blew all the cob webs out for the tourney! Looks like I may fish the VBSF with dad & bro on Friday on my boat. I'm all for working with other boats to find fish - if it's legal. tongue.gif Let's work it together. food-smiley-004.gif
