I'm starting to dream about trolling for rock in the ocean. Does anyone know where the big fish are now? I guess you could look at sea temps. and find the 50-55 degree water, and that's where they'll be. I wish they'd hurry up and come down.

My guess is they would be off New England. I have worked with guys from the U. of Rhode Island and hear they usually have a nice bite in Nanagansett Bay around this time of year. With the water temps we have, it might not be until January.

Most of the cows are still well north (NJ, NY). There have been a few reports of some 30+" fish inshore here. Water temps are still around 70 degrees here, we need the cool weather to move in and stay. Only good thing about the warm weather is the past couple of years most of the fish stayed here into March.

Well the bay season closes December 31st then you HAVE to fish in the ocean. Right now you could do either, they just have different regs. The 50-55 degree water is a long ways away. Mid to late December is when I usually start to fish the Cape Henry area but still inside the demarcation line. It all depends on the water temp. Eeling is a good technique to pick up the big ones in the bay, but they aren't here yet.
Remember the ocean regs are 2 per person with a 28" minimum.

I don't know how everyone else did last year, but I as soon as the bay opened my striper season closed. I had no luck at all trolling out there. It was my first season and all but still took a beating. I also had alot smaller of a boat which made it difficult. I managed to sink it and got a bigger boat now.(harder to sink) ha ha....Hopefully this year will prove to be better for all..

I will be Dec at the earliest. Warm water/weather pushes everything back. They say it will be cooler this year?
Last year we started trolling in the bay the begining of Dec, in the Ocean after Christmas.
Like said, the warm weather kept the fish from moving south of here, they stuck around here for awhile.
