My friend just gave me 2 med. 7 ft graphite rods brand new. Now I am looking for a pair of reels. I use the Penn ss reels offshore , but I want something lighter for trout, reds and the keys inshore slam. The rods are 10-17 lb class. Anybody have suggetions ?
Thanks

I use nothing but penn ss and ssg's. for what you have there I would use the 5500 or 4500.

Todd your better off just going with the higher end penns cause the lower one will only last a year or 2 of hard fishing then you got to replace them for and extra 30-40 up front save you money in the long run. It took replaceing a lot of reels to learn that.

The shimano spheros is a good reel that will hold up inshore. They cast and retrieve very smooth and it is the only reel I use inshore. Never had a problem with them.

Penn Slammers.

Check with Anthony at Princess Anne Distr. He can beat almost anyone. I got a few slammers on ugly sticks around $125.00.

I like the Shimano Sahara series ($59), feels like the higher end models and so far has held up good.

I bought all my penn spinning reels used. Just go to PA after you buy them, spend 2 bucks on drag washers, swap them out in 5 min and new reel.

I like the older aluminum penn reels more than the new graphite ones. They only make the larger penn spinners in aluminum now. So I bought used ones.

They have all been tested with specks, citation striper/spade and bailing dolphin.

These are the ss reels, with gold spools.

I use mostly baitcasters, but I started using Cabela's Salt Striker Metal last year for certain applications and am quite pleased. Can't beat it for $69.99

Good things come to those who bait.
