Went down the street to the locks today for a few hours to try the crab. I was using fishing poles with chicken tied to them... The crab were tearing them up, but I was only able to get one up close enough to net... That one was fairly small, so I let him go grow up.... I'll be ready next time if I go though. Ordering a couple of those Crab Hawk traps that you can cast out......

Appreciate it Andrew... I've seen tons of people up there crabbing, so I just assumed the crabs were good to eat.... Guess I've been lucky then because I still haven't had any crabs from the locks or the Elizabeth River.... Appreciate the heads up.

Very true statement, I had a bunch from just west of there off the riverwalk neighborhood dock, and had some stomach issues for about 2 weeks afterwards. Never doing that again.

I'd like to get out this weekend and catch some though, anyone know where one can get public access to crab waters? I thought abuot the area near lynnhaven inlet?

people often crab in lynnhaven but the current runs real hard there, which makes it hard to crab...not sure where else to try around here....

Doug, next time we will, PM me your number i can't seem to find it anymore

Hey if your going to talk about me at least Quote me
If you had fished there for more 2-3 times you would know the river is in its best shape in 10 years the clarity is a lot better far as fish I have eaten 100`s of pounds out of there and some crabs sold thousands of crabs with no complaints . One suggestions if you eat crabs from there clean them first they are a lot better.

there are plenty of crabs in rudee. you can stand next to the rocks with a dip net and a cast a chix neck out and have your fill. i've never heard of any problems with contamination there. but to be honest, i wouldn't worry about any areas. the shellfish and fish move about so there is noway to tell where a species has been. maybe some type of tagging program for blue crabs could shed some light on travel patterns.

swim in it all the time during the summer might head down there this weekend over the winter the vise was 5ft in there and from the high rise the other day you could see all the channels and sandbars so it aint that dirty but the closer you get to the shipyards and julians creek the worse it gets. The oyster bars they put in seem to be helping the river plus shutting down some of the factories on the rver has helped also
