Made my first offshore trip this year and could not have asked for better weather conditions. We finally departed lynnhaven around 5 am with Southercrush (Patrick), Danny and myself onboard. We ran straight to the cigar in the thickest fog I have ever seen. We ended up trolling mostly SE of the cigar in 600 to 1000ft of water. Found a lot of grass but nothing had formed up into a weedline. We finally came into a huge pod of 2-tones and finally hooked up on a yellowfin. Trolled with the dolphins for another hour but could never get another hit. Called it a day around 3:30 and headed in to gentle following sea.

I did have some thing hit and take my #16 planer. This was my first attempt at using my new planer rod and bridle setup.

Also I want to Thank Dolph for buddy boating up with us. Sorry we couldn't get you over to where we hooked up. Definately next time.

Scott

Thanks Scott for the great trip, could not have asked for better conditions for a boat ride ... we'll catch more next time. cool.gif

It is always nice when a first timer (offshore) gets the rod and brings home a nice Tuna - He's 1 for 1 (not too shabby)

FYI to all those fishing soon - tuna was full of 4-6 inch SQUID - where do most of you get your squid for squid rigs? Asian restaurants, bait shops, etc.?

Scott,

Thanks again for the trip. Hooked my first tuna on my first offshore experience, couldn't ask for more. Well, maybe that we get out of the harbor 30 minutes earlier next time Patrick haha.

Your first post and you are already starting up with the 30min thing.... It will be a long ride next time (if you get one)

Things happen for a reason... you got on a fish when you did and where we were fishing which would have been different if we left 30MIN earlier... can't we all just get along

Well I guess that does have some bearing on hitting that particular fish. Did you get the keys from Scott yet so we could cobia fish... I mean check on his boat while he was gone?
