Hard to pass up a Hot Dog on the Fourth of July Weekend! Watching the weather very closely we decided that ther was a good window for a run out to the Hot Dog in search of Tuna. We left Rudee at 0500 and the ride out was no problem with a SE swell and a little wind chop on top. The skys were grey but opened to give us a little sunrise and some mixed open patches during the day. We worked the Hot Dog with Still Think'n and 3 or 4 other boats. Heard a few boats working the Fingers. Things werre pretty slow all around to start. A few Mahi reported up North, and the Hot Dog crew worked hard. Our first knockdown came around 0900 and Debbie ttok the rod. This fish hit the short left flat and steadily stripped off line and pulled drag. Deddie had a blast amd worked the fish like a pro! Don leadered the fish and decided it was a very respectable keeper Blue Fin Tuna, taping in at 42", a nice first Blue Fin Tuna for Debbie!! We had a few more knockdowns spread out through the day, missing another tuna who let go, a small Mahi that realized the bait was as big as he was, and a solid pulling mystery fish that Fred fought for 20 minutes and got about 10 feet shy of the leader before the leader was bit off. We suspect a Wahoo, and it would have been a good fish from the drag he was pulling for so long! Landed one more small Mahi and timed our way back home through the storm cells without a problem. All in all a good day out doing some fishing and having fun!
Sharp hooks and tight lines!
Dave
