Team No Show, Flying Scud, & Fish Gang- hit OI bright and early Sunday... A little weary of the full moon.. FULL MOON = FULL FISH ... At least that has usually been the case for us fishing around these times.. But I did not have Chit to do so Fudge IT, Lets go fishing.. Leaving out right behind the fleet... Headed out to the point and got to work.. Spread in by 7ish -
Not a sniff all morning.. Just kept working out and south... Found the fleet working a break way overboard.. went from 69-72.. still nothing.. Changed the spread up a bit and finally picked up a puny mahi around 1:30 Kept working out.. We were way out there... Still blaming that full moon.. Around 3.... TLD50 starts singing... Finally! Its been a while.. Last time we heard her scream like that we got spooled.. Everyone manned there battle stations, we got everything cleared quickly and started doing work.. Our newby angler got settled in and handled it like a pro.. When I tell you this fish was mean, HE WAS MEAN.. We did not even get a glimpse of him until close to an hour.. Head shakes, dumping spools, this thing was on steroids.. The whole time during the fight we kept seeing a marlin around the boat... At one point we thought it may have even been a damn marlin that just was not jumping cause it seemed to too strong.. We got a couple nice bluefins this year.. one about 200# and it came in ALOT easier than this fish.. Every time we thought we were getting him close he just dumped.. The current and wind was helping him stay down and just bully us..After over an hour of this at least and nothing to show for it I was beginning to think we may not get this one.. Those are some nervous moments just hoping everything stays tight.. On some of those headshakes we thought we lost him for a second.. But Our angler stayed strong.. We told him dont let it beat ya.. and he just held tough.. We started putting some heat on him and using the boat to gain line... And thankfully this time it all came together for us and we ended up sinking a couple steel hooks into a BIGEYE BEAST.. After a short celebration it was pretty late and our gear was in disarray... Figured we just put together what we could without getting to crazy on rigging stuff up to get a few last minutes on a troll heading in.. Got five nice baits in the water and started securing things for the trip home.. Not even five minutes later we got murdered by a school of yellow fins... I saw them all bust into the spread and the clickers starting singing right after.. IT WAS AWESOME!!! Well this one did not got so well as we lost all the fish but one.. The one we got in was nice ... around 45#.. Got him on a HOMEMADE MINI SPREADER BAR I made the night before with chit laying around the house!!!! Man it was so sweet... So after a slow start - we finished strong... Just another reason why not to pack up early and go after the tiles... Im gonna post the pics when I get em up.... Both TUNERS hit witches.... all yellow, and blue and green.. And Like I said, one of them was the chase bait on my home made O BAR... We did not weigh the Bigeye but hes every bit over a 100.. Fat a$$ fish... Id say close to 130-150class... Fought like a BULL! Till next time AMIGOS.... FISH ON! |

Nice job not quitting. Went out on a charter out of OI on Sunday and had a real slow day. One Mahi. Started seeing tuna around 3, but being a charter, lines were up and we headed in right at 3pm. I certainly didn't want to quit. I usually find the afternoon bite is better after a full moon as well.
Congrats. |
