Well me and my neighbor, Brian, decided to make a last minute call Friday night at 2200 to head out Saturday AM, to take his boat for its maiden voyage to the deep sea.

Launched at Owls Creek at 0615, lines at about 0730. Trolled around with some ballyhoo he and I barely knew how to rig, on some sea witches. Green, pink, red, blue was our spread.

First screaming drag was on the shot gun that only stayed on for a few seconds. Not bad, I was pretty excited considering I had none of you "salty Virginia Beach guys" helping me. Second fish, still at the hot dog, hit the left short. This was on a blue / white sea witch. Didn't have much line on this set up, and by the time I got my hand on the rod, the line was gone off the reel. Spooled. Oh well still exciting. Trolled closer to the fingers, and last fish of the day took the left short again on a blue / white set up.

Even though we went 0 for 3 on fish, hearing a screaming drag go off, on rigs that two "new guys" set up, was one of the most intense and exciting evolution I have seen. It was amazing to hear that sound!

Time to get to work on some more offshore set ups, and practice some more. Voodoo, you might be coming with us next time!

P.S. All of the ballyhoo that were hit had 1/2 oz weights on them. Secondly, her "Marlin Chaser", Capt Ray (I think), talking of a great bite off the 100 fathom line, south of the canyon. He said it was the best he has seen in a while.

Dude, thought you were going to call me back!!!!!!!! I was boatless today and had a kitchen pass :-( Good job on the screaming drags, must have done something right to have fish take and run.

Screamin' drag disease is an expensive malady Junior! There's no known cure and only one treatment that is effective and it's REEL expensive. Don, you need to hook Junior up with the Get Reel starter kit. Welcome to the club buddy!

Junior,

Great report. Those are the initial signs that you are becoming addicted!!!! Keep working it and you'll be killin them shortly.
As George said, get w/ Don and have him hook you up with a set of Get Reel lures to get you started right. Talk to Phil & Mike and get yourselfs some G&H seawitches.

Great Job!!!!

Scott
