We almost called off the tuna run as it was just Greg and I going. Seems like everyone had family plans for the whole weekend. However, the temps, the winds, and the weather was just too good to pass up. We left Lynnhaven heading south of the canyon. Temps didn't look as good as I'd hoped, but we saw one boat hooked up and several boats in the area. Dropped out the lines and before we had time to check out how they were running we had our first fish. Greg kept getting it near the boat and the fish would take a run at the motors. Circled left, headed straight, left again, but the fish was savy to our plans. Finally tried heading right, confused the fish and brought him in the boat. Nice fish, probably 60-65 lbs.
We kept running into the light fog and back out with fish on every trip. We threw 16 back (fat alberts, too small yellowfin), but we got our limit of keepers with a couple of good size tuna and one nice dolphin. Fun having 4 lines screaming with only 2 on the boat.
Wind started picking up and the boat was at the limit so about noon we started back. Most the way went fine, but when we got to Chesapeake light we saw storms at the mouth of the bay. Sped up and made a run for Lynnhaven. Probably hit some gusts of 35 but the waves weren't too bad yet. Lightning stayed off to our north.
Just a great day. Arms sore but fish in the freezer!
