We put our boat in at the Oyster town ramp around 11:00 Friday morning and left our vehicle and trailer while we took the boat out for the day. We returned from a fun day on the water around 5:00 PM, loaded the boat back onto the trailer and left. We made it about 10 miles when all of the sudden our driver side trailer tire fell off and rolled across the median and into the oncoming traffic. Luckily, nobody was injured and the boat was secured to the trailer well enough that it stayed on. Three other cars behind us stopped on the side of the road to check their cars, but left after a few minutes.
We discovered that the backside of the tire was slashed (although it didn't appear flat when we loaded the boat), the hub's lug nuts were all removed and the bearing buddy had been stolen. Unfortunately, I don't make it a habit of checking all of those things before driving, but I will from now on! If anyone knows the number of the harbormaster for Oyster, please post so I can report this vandalism. -------------------- Men are afraid to rock the boat in which they hope to drift safely through life's currents, when, actually, the boat is stuck on a sandbar. At Oyster... WOW! I would expected somthing like this at Lynnhaven or Owls Creeks. Whoever did this really "STUPID". This could have cost someone their life, either yours or an innocent bystander. Glad to hear that no one got hurt and there was no damage to the your boat. This individual is worse than a thief, not by much.

Up to the point of attempted murder. Who ever did that wanted to harm someone once they get on the road. |

On a summer Friday afternoon at 5:00, I'm glad there weren't more cars on the road or it could have caused some MAJOR problems... especially on 13 where there isn't much room to maneuver if a tire s racing at you head on!
I've sent emails to the appropriate people around Cape Charles and Northampton County for no other reason than to let them know what's going on in case others have problems. But my real interest is to inform all of my fellow boaters and fisherman/woman to just be on your toes when leaving your trailer. I know I'll do a more thorough "walk-around" before getting on the road from now on. -------------------- Men are afraid to rock the boat in which they hope to drift safely through life's currents, when, actually, the boat is stuck on a sandbar. Thanks for the heads up. We will likely use the ramp at oyster next week and I will be sure to take the time to do a good 'walk around' before we hit the road. By getting the word out, you may well have saved someone else a headache- or a life!
