Decided to leave the CBBT be for a weekend and ran up to BRR for a change. Enroute I discover I have lost my hand held GPS power supply and we have no batteries. . . so armed with nothing but a depth finder and my memory of where we have caught fish we went to work. I fished just about everything in the arsenal, live pin head croaker, cut croaker, cut mullet, cut flounder belly from last season, and an assortment of gulps. End of business we had 3 keepers 2 right around 19 and one at 20, one throw back and a couple of croaker. No big boys for me yet this year, but good to finally have some fish that I could take home. 2 of the fish came on top/bottom rig with cut croaker and flounder belly combo the other came on a 7" gulp jerk shad and a 2 ounce red jig head, fished north of the buoy about 50 yards or so and drifted most west to east thanks to the light breeze. Nothing touched the pin heads all day.

Probably going to hit that area again this coming weekend this time w/ the GPS up and running.

Yeah, home PC is down so I have to post at work, which means either first thing in the morning or right before I head home either way I usually forget.

Good job YoungGun! Hopefully things will get better in July!
It's been real slow for us and we've been fishing close to port due to the lack of promising reports.
Enjoy the flounder sandwich!!

Pretty work and great report! I've done well in the past with both the gulps and the fresh cut croaker strips. I don't use flounder belly for anything but dinner! LOL! And that's one thing I like about live croakers, the small fish tend to leave them alone, or can't get the hook in their mouth. You get less bites, but the ones you get are usually worth the effort. So if you're fishing known nursery areas like the HRBT and Hampton Bar, using live croakers, spot or pigfish should cut down on the numbers of small fish hooked and thus the mortality of small fish. I know a lot of fishermen don't mind catching and releasing small fish, and it is legal. But the way I always looked at it is while my bait is in the mouth of a small fish, a legal sized one can't eat it. So I always try to size my baits to both attact larger fish and dissuade smaller ones. Just a thought.

Hey YoungGun,
Was the yellow reef buoy @ BRR replaced? Might be heading out there tomorrow with a friend and he doesn't have the #'s on his gps. I can get the #'s off of the vmrc site but nice to have a visual on the buoy.
thanks,
DB

Yeah the buoy was there on saturday. Wish I could fish tomorrow, probably have the place pretty much to yourselves, good luck. All my fish saturday came on cut bait and gulps no takers on the 6-8" pin heads.
