Made the shakedown run with my buddy Dale's "new to him" boat, after months of prep with the boat and trailer, to ensure a summer full of fishing, headed out of Dales place around 0600 and headed to owls creek, launched and in the water at 0715, headed to the CLT, about 7 boats out there not doing anything, two boats on the Reef, steady pullin 'em in, to the reef we went, most of the morning was pretty quiet, then around 1030 we had our fist fish on, and went pretty steady from there, fished until 1400 when we caught our limit(3 anglers, 12 fish). The key was clam chum, we didn't have any but we were between three charter boats and I'm pretty sure that is what kept the bite steady. Most fish were caught about three feet down drifted behind the boat. Real good class of fish, too. About 5 - 7 lbs. First the fish pics, then the story...
![]() ![]() ![]() Now, onto the story that follows... Met an older gentleman through my work about a year ago, during our conversation, i had told him I was just really getting into fishing pretty heavy and he explained to me that he had Lupus and was no longer able to be in the sun for any length of time and was no longer able to go fishing anymore, this is man whose life had revloved around fishing and hunting, and he had recently sold his boat. He gave me two large pickle jars full of lead to use the next time I was to go out, he just asked me if I would bring him some fish whenever I had any extra. That trip didnt produce, sadly and it wasnt until november that I was able to bring him two smaller schoolie stripers, but He was overjoyed, about three months later he called me and said he had a few lures he though I might be able to use, I went by and picked up nearly and entire copier box full of spoons, bucktails, crankbaits, pre-made 3 way leaders, you name it, it was there. the next day i went to boaters world and loaded up on new trebles, hooks and split rings to restore all of them, and had to buy a new tackle box to fit it all. Now after this most recent trip, my buddy Dale was nice enough to fillet up the spadefish for me and I called this guy up and asked him if he wanted any, of course he said yes, and when i got there, we chatted up a while about the day out on the water and traded a few stories, and I told him that in a few weeks hopefully I will be able to bring him some fresh Tuna and Mahi, and that it would be my first trip offshore. He asked me if I had a tuna rod to use and I told him no, not yet. He told me to meet him around back at the garage, where he had this for me: ![]() Penn Senator 114H on a 6' Magnuflex full roller 50lb. class rod. I was awestruck, I had no idea what to say, except, you will get all the fish I can bring you. He then told me people ask him all the time what he did with the boat, and explains that he sold it, and they also ask what is he going to do with all of those rods and reels hes got, he patted me on the back, smiled and told me "I've got a good place for those." -------------------- One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

Great story and if you need fresh fish to pass on to him let me know. I will be more than happy to give up mine so that he can enjoy something that he is no longer able to do. Good job on everything you have done for him.
