John and i did a tour of the whole lower bay Friday, CBBT, Cell, Wolftrap. Saw no Spade in the water, being caught or anything. Lots of boats fishing, no catching.
Not sure what was up, water was kind a dirty. -------------------- 24 Albemarle 1979 Hull #10 Roll Tide “Fishing is a delusion entirely surrounded by liars in old clothes.” Don Marquis ![]() |

Spent the whole morning at the 2nd island Friday and only saw one small spade pulled in by another boat. Reports are saying they're out there, but you sure couldn't prove it by me.

Yes, the spades are at 2nd island. We caught 1 after an hour, the boat next us caught a few. The one I caught was in 28 feet of water, about 15 feet deep, about 100 feet off the rocks oceanside. They are considerbly samller than the ones I caught two weeks ago at Chesapeake Light Tower, but they a still a decent fight on light tackle. Cast into the rocks working back toward the boat with a bobber and try no bobber with 1/2once stright down varying depth every 5 minutes or so to find where they are swimming( vary the depth on the bobber also).
We also had good hits at thimble shoals light and saw seveal caught by other boats. Cast right onto the light tower and let it sit within 5 feet of the edge of the structure. Good luck to all. Ben |

There is a very large class of fish at the CBBT. This past weekend was one of our best. Keep going East along the CBBT and you'll find them. When the tide goes to slack make sure you are armed and ready. The bite has been around the tide. Make sure your gear is beefed up as well.
If I can help let me know. Good luck to you!!! Capt. Scott -------------------- |
