My wife and I fished the 65/65 Finger on Sunday.. managed two gaffer dolphin.. and one very impressive hookup. The fish never shown itself on the surface, but it took about 1/2 of my Penn 50's spool, making some very blistering runs back and forth near the srface. Cleared all lines and fought it for about 30 minutes, gaining a bit of line back as we headed to where the line was going.... The felt a huge head shake and the 140# mono leader broke. Marlin, shark? not sure.. Pulled and ran like a blue marlin, but didn't sky once. Go figure.

Ran back at noon to real messy chop all the way in. Weather report was a bit understated for my 23' cat.

Back at it on Friday..

Started trolling east towrds the canyon from the fingers yesterday. picked up 4 gaffer dolphin and one bailer within 10 miles east of the fingers. No debris, no temp break, no grass line, random strikes on everything we had in the water. We had a pink squid chain on the WWB, islander/hoo combo's on the longs, and naked islanders on the shorts. All were hit at one time or another, with the naked green, and the black/red islander hoo combo being prevelant. Water temp was around 69 - 70, and we picked most of them up in 165-170 ft of water.

Good luck.

What you probably got hit by was that bluefin, there were a few caught there this past week. Better to not see what could have been then to get it boat side and lose it. As my son tells me if we lose something that was that 800lb Blue Marlin. Good job on the gaffers.
