Hey guys & gals,
Whell my boay is in the shop and I'm DYING OVER HERE...... I've tryed some surf spots like chix beach, north end and Lesner for some pups or decend size blues, all with no avail. I've been netting plenty of small spot, mullet but use to having my toes in the sand I'm at a loss.
Not looking for anyones Honey Holes just some tips on the whole surf fishing. I went and bought, please don't tell my wife, two 10'ers and a 9'er. I found these awsome In-Line 3way barrel swivels with a 3-4"dropper and a 2-3' leader with a 4/0 circle.. It's worked so so but not like being on a boat..
Any help would be great, might even trade weight ( I pour my own lead ) for helpful tips.
Tight Lines,
John

Well, I'm going to share one of my honey holes with you, if you promise not to tell anyone else. LOL! I was a long time resident of Willoughby Spit in Norfolk. Beginning after the first cold front of the year, usually in late August and lasting well into October, there is a good run of puppy drum all along the beach at Willoughby Spit. If you cast a bait on a fish finder rig out near the stone groins installed off the beach you will find them. Squid and cut bunker work well. One of the best spots was right behind the old Holiday Inn about half way out on the Spit. Another was at the end of the spit off the rocks. If you're out there don't forget to soak a crab bait for the stray speckled trout. But don't cast that too far, because the fish are right at your feet. And right about time the reds cool down, striper heats up. I loved walking along the beach at sundown, wading in shorts into November, casting surface plugs to the ends of those stone groins. Many are out of range for light tackle, but some are within range. And I went home empty handed at least as often as I caught fish, but I loved taking the fish right from the water to the pan. Walk down the beach and catch your dinner. Can't beat it.

The boss and I lived in the Apt building (Jefferson Apts I think) right next to the Inn back in the early 80's. We spent hours out there doing exactly what you just said. biggrin.gif

Hey man thanks for most valuable info. Now is this on the rocks because I'm afraid to take the young ones (5) on a jettie. The ADD runs deep within them so they need wide open spaces or I'll be maken many ER visits.
