I went to Virginia Beach Pier yesterday to do a little pier fishing. Walking up to the top of the pier people were pulling up average sized spot like crazy doubles were coming up everywhere and you know not one of those fish went back into the drink. Well got to the head of the pier and asked everybody wat they were catching and yelled spanish and blues while his rod was doubled over and luckly i had a jerk jigger(gotcha plug) on already and first cast i was hooked up to a 17in spanish. I knew it was gonna be a good day. that run lasted for another 5 min and i got another 19in before the run ended. For the rest of the day periods of taylor blues came in and out then around 4 taylor blues were there for an hour everybody got their limit on them and soon people want them to fall off before they got off because they wanted spanish. Some guy ended the dasy with 11 spanish biggest being 5 lbs yea thats really good for a pier. shoot thats good if you catch that size on a boat. A nice little black tip bit s gotcha but the drop net had not arrived yet and broke the line before it got up. A 4 1/2 foot sand shark was landed when the drop net was there and he kept it. Are they good to eat. A lady that rented a fishing rod caught a small spadefish. soooo lucky those are hard to catch. Many small flounder in the 16in and below were caught and thank gooness released. I myself ended the day with a couple blues and spot and 2 tasty spanish. I thought it was a great day on the pier with constant action and my arms killing me from working that jerk jigger all day.
