Beaufort

Fishing for 25-30 pound jacks has been exceptional of late. Look in the St. Helena, Port Royal or Calibogue Sounds; the bite is best on high tides.

While not table fare ladyfish are acrobatic fighters who have been providing real excitement for lowcountry anglers over the last week or two in the creeks and rivers. They have been taking lots of ladyfish on the fly.

Good tailing tides over the last week made for a very strong redfish bite on the high tide. On the fly Dupre Spoon Flies, Redfish Toad Flies and crab imitations are all working.

Good catches of large and small trout continue on live shrimp, mud minnows, or artificials such as Gulp! and DOA shrimp.

Flounder are around in good numbers in the inlets and creeks.

Very high tides slowed down the Spanish Mackerel bite over the last week around sand bars in the Port Royal Sound; look for fishing to improve this week.

The tarpon bite has improved around area bridges.

Whiting and some flounder are being caught as well as pretty good numbers of sheepshead, especially close in around the oyster beds. Lots of sharks are also around.
