Met Capt. C.T. and Mike the other day. Stand-up guys, and a nicely appointed tackle store. While I was there, someone stopped by to get some live shrimp. Man! I'm not sure I've ever seen bait shrimp so big. I'd be sure to keep them frisky in my live well, and take the one's that don't produce fish back home for shrimp and grits.!!
I don't have a lot of contemporary SC/GA coast fishing info, since I can't get up there as much as I would like. I can tell you the reds are on fire --- both the slot fish and the big bulls --- around Hilton Head. Filmed a TV episode with Capt. Dan Utley last week, and we did really well in the creeks and in the river. Tagged a big bull to be caught another day.
With all the closures in both the Atlantic and Gulf, inshore is going to be the way to go for quite some time. Only a couple months per year that us recreational anglers will be able to legally fish for offshore species. So, I'll be honing up my inshore skills and targeting some doormats and bulls.
Reservoir stripers are getting heated up on Lake Lanier, Clarks Hill and Hartwell. Should be coming shallow as the water continues to cool. Gulls should be showing up in the next month or so and then it will be pandamonium as we throw topwaters and zip spoons across big frenzied schools of linesides. We'll be pulling out the long poles too, when they come into the backs of creeks and will readily take a fly.
I'll try to keep folks that are interested appraised of what's going on in the Gulf and inland waters of GA, SC and NC
Nice to be here on the site.
