I got up at 430 am to a flooded dock and 50 MPH gusts the water was 6 inches over and into my yard.Bayisland`s main road was washed over with about a foot of salt water but I waded the truck slowly through it with no problems. When I got to the Fishing center the parking lot was half way flooded but I have seen it worse My boats lines were doubled up and everything looked OK.Then I drove over to the rail where everyone likes to fish"old Light House restaurant" the jetty swells were 10 feet higher than the rocks.I would guess that they were 15 foot or better. After I figured out that the tide was going down a bit I headed back to Bay Island where the water had gotten even deeper.Trucks were stopped at the edge of the flooded areas.Lucky for me I was in my old Land Rover which has sealed doors and has a wading capability better than most trucks its size and it is old enough to "dog "a bit.Slowly I drove through the water and made it through 3 different spots but the 4th spot I noticed that there were flooded cars in a driveway.Oh crap, here I go... I waded through as a few people looked on like I was crazy but I pushed through and the water was up above the front bumper. To my suprise the doors didnt leak a drop. When I walked in the house my Boys showed me how the neighbors boat had sunk and then we saw a 30 foot boat adrift straight down Broad Bay headed for the bridge. There are landscaping timbers , chairs, dock Boxes and all kinds of stuff floating by as we look on.Here is a photo of the boat from the corner of my yard ,notice how high the water is .

Here is a map depicting what the Norfolk - Virginia Beach area looks like with the water at sea level, and elevated by five feet. It might not be a perfect representation of the way things would actually play out if the surge is that high, but gives an indication of how many places are at that low an elevation.

A buddy keeps his boat at his moms on Bridge St in Hampton across from the yatch club. From Tonys pic looks like low land in that area. The family and house have a lot of history including the house being lifted off the foundation due to high water and setting back down fine per inspectors report. The family also lost their 90 year old gulf waterfront home in Mississippi back in the Katrina Storm. A tornado split the house in half sending one section E the other W before the storm surge covered it with sand.
Hoping everyone effected gets through without many problems. Looks and sounds like a few properties/boats are already in bad shape. Here in central VA just a bad WX day.

Hey Guys,
I just brought my boat down from MD on Sunday to Long Bay Pointe Marina for the Fall/Winter fishing. Great timing for all of this. Does anyone know how the marina is doing?

Can't beat floating docks ....... Connie said the tide will have to rise another 5 feet to cause trouble ..... Some owners have moved their boats to Long Bay to ride out the storm. You are in good shape.....

talked to Fred on Margaritaville at LBP. he says all is good, but the water was in the parkng lot at 1 point. expect it to peak out over the bulkhead before it's all said & done.
our boat is in Deltaville on a stationary dock....if I had a choice.....LBP is where it would be....a floating dock...you can't beat it!!

throw a few extra lines on & let it ride!!

Thx for the fast replies. That's what I thought but I still worried a little. Hope everyone down there survives this without much damage.

WOW! HAZMAT!!! That could cause a huge mess. Somebody has some tugging to do to get that thing off the beach. Reports say 30yds out, that pier could be in worse condition than Lynnhaven real quick.

As soon as I did this post our power went out we just now got it back. All I can say is WHAT A NIGHT. I got caught by the tide and couldn`t get back to my house last night so I had to sleep on the MB. The water was 3 feet deep on Bay Island where my family was stuck with no electricity or heat. When I got to the fishing center I noticed the bow flair is over the Starboard Piling, thanks to my dock partner Wes Lane more damage was prevented . Wes used one of his lines and tied the bow off so it wouldnt reach the piling anymore. I got an area about 14 inches wide where the gelcoat got rubbed off under my rub rail on my starboard bow nothing that cant be fixed but one more of the many projects I have going on. To get on my boat was a job I had to wade across the parking lot and drop in the water up to my chest just to climb on my boat. The winds were gusting to 60 MPH last night I think we all got lucky at the marina not much damage at all. At about 1:30 am last night the tide dropped below the Parking lot and Shad were all over the place flopping around. I grabbed a net and a bucket and rescued about 20 of them. If they had been flounder they would have been out of luck because I had my" easy cook" and a frying pan ready .

What amazed me through out this whole storm is the way people plow into salt water with their trucks doing 20 MPH salt water exploding into their motors and up into the body parts of their new trucks. Just wait till they pop their hoods a few weeks from now and see a ball of corroded metal parts under their hoods. There was a dude driving a new Black ford dually doing 200 foot splash runs through the parking lot last night we didnt call the cops because we knew he will be getting his punishment from the corrosion police real soon.

Glad you're alright. Has anybody talked to Tom(Volunteer)? I know Poquoson got it pretty bad, and I've been wondering how he's fairing out that way. I'll drop him a PM and call him tomorrow.
