Here's my sob story. We listened to the weatherman and didn't venture out on Fri and Sat for fear of thunderstorms. Finally decided to go out late Sat night and fish the light line at HRBT, with the plan to fish all night and then drift for flounder at daybreak before heading back in. At the marina , I slipped on the ladder and fell to the dock. Foot swole up big time, but four other guys were going up with me, so did the macho thing, sucked it up and went out anyway (big mistake). Conditions were rough, but we anchored up and started catching some fish. Sporadic striper some fat, but no where near 32" (biggest was around 28), several blues. The bite slowed down and I threw down a bottom rig and was pulling in horse croaker 2 at a time on squid will the rest of the crew tried to catch some shut eye. In the morning, we couldn't drift due to the conditions--so bad we ended up getting power-pro in one of the props, and couldn't fish it out for fear of falling overboard. Lifted the motor and came in on one engine. Got to the marina and realized I had lost my wallet either when I fell or in the water while the boat was rocking and rolling.

If that wasn't bad enough--could hardly walk on the foot Monday, so got an X-ray, and found out it was fractured in 3 places--3 metatarsals cracked--so total tally was some striper, 4 blues, too numerous to count croaker, 3 broken bones, lost wallet and lower unit that prob. needs repaired. Hopefully I've got a season's worth of bad luck taken care of in one night.

Sorry for the vent, had to get it off my chest.

Man Sorry to hear that. I've heard that old saying that a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work, but your story makes me wonder. But then again you weren't skipping work.

Then there the one that I tend to live by.....If your gut or you insticnts say don't go there......then don't.

Let keep our ears open for the next meet and greet, thank for the tip the other day and prop your foot up on your transom, fish and heal.
Take a man fishing and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you keep him out of your tackle box.

Naved

Look on the bright side. You had 2 engines and managed to get back without being towed.

You do have tow insurance, right?

Charlie,

I do have Sea tow, but we were close to home (HRBT to Sunset is a short ride) and the other motor got us in ok. Wouldn't leave home without that coverage though....

Once the swelling goes down and you convert from Ice to heat you can use hot water out of your motor to soak your Foot.I had to do it a few years ago.

Thanks guys. The Vicodin has been good to me. Still swollen, but got to try the hot water from the motor thing that MegaBite suggested, except my wife won't even think about letting me get near the boat these days angry.gif angry.gif .

I hope I don't miss the drum.......

Naved;

What a story Bro; no one is going to call you a sissy though! Are you sure you were not a NAVY SNIPE?

Kerby,

Not even close---those guys are the REAL DEAL!!! I work with my brother, so I knew if I "wussed out" on the trip I'd hear about it daily for a long time--which is definitely more painful than a few broken bones....

By the way, has work slowed down a little for you yet, or are you still putting in those 7 day work weeks?

Naved;

It has been brutal; my boss was in a wreck and I have been loaded. Pop has even written me off as a fishing buddy I think (haha). My boat is more like a yard fixture as I am no longer sure if it will move.

Perhaps work will settel down about the time you foot heals. Stay Tuff!
