Tower 10/4

I saw a report of nice big Jack Crevalle at the Tower and couldn't stand it. I skipped work and headed out with my dad.
We only had a half-day trip by the time we got the boat launched and caught bait. Launched at 11:30. Caught nice bait at mouth of Rudee with me working a bottom rig and the boat while my dad worked the cast net.
Got out to the Tower around 1pm and anchored up near the southwest leg of the tower. Put 4 live baits down on the bottom with fish0finder rigs (that's what the guy who caught 'em recommended) Got nothing but skate and sharks. Pulled the anchor at 4pm and drifted/ worked the boat all around the tower working live bait on a three way at all levels till 5pm. Nothing...............
I was sure we'd catch 'em but it was not to be. Still always fun to get out there. Next time!

You might not want to be anchored up when you hook into a JC,they will break you off in the tower everytime.Just back up and hold the boat in place when you get a hook up pull away as fast as you can without throwing anyone out the boat. Those fish pull like a wreck Donkey.

I'm not familiar with Jack Cravelles. Is it the same fish as an Amberjack? Inquiring minds want to know.
Volunteer, JC's are not the same as AJ's. They are similar in that they both get pretty large, fight extreamly hard & neither are fit for the table - just a sport fish. JC's are silver with yellow tinged fins and look rather tropical to me. I've caught them in Panama on a surf trip. I've heard we had some around here but I've never seen anyone catch 'em and the one's they caught at the tower were HUGE!

Down at Sailfish Marina in West Palm Beach, there are JC's that size swimming around the docks under the cleaning stations...it's truly amazing to see these huge fish right there in clear blue water!!

Every year there is a run of Jack cravelles In the hot ditch. They only stay there for a limited time have caught them as big as 33lbs and loss some bigger. Its a trip to have a mullet the size of a snickers bar get slamed. they take the schools of bait and run them right on shore. Hit one in the boat ramp at locks park in a castnet that weighed 8.1. Thats the only time I have seen them that far up river but have seen them in the hd for 6 yr.
Those of us that expect to catch fish usauly do
