Fished east side of Cape Henry and caught 8 striper and 3 blues. The six we kept ranged from 30 to 36". Had one throw back of about 24" and another one that was about 34 that went back because we already had our limit. The blues ranged from 30 to 34 inches. action-smiley-033.gif All of the striper were caught on a chartreuse stretch and all the blues were caught on a red head stretch.

Good job...thanks for the report. We've had great luck this year with Stretches in chartruse or green tiger.

Yeah we started with a full color spread, by the end we were running nothing but Chart 25's. Caught all fish on the chart 25's one on Mojo, chart also.

We had outboard problems, engine would overheat at low RPM's so we could not troll. Engine ran good above 1500 RPM. Engine is a 200 HP Jonson. Only a couple years old. Anyone else had a problem like this. She was spitting water fine.

Anyways, we were limited to casting. We fished the pilings and chased birds mainly around the thrid island. Caught 25 18-25" fish and one 36". All on 6" storms and like everyone else, Chart. was the hot color. White was working good as well. Talked to several guys at the docks and the stretch's (+25) seemed to be what everyone was having the most success with.

I saw a guy at the dock that had what looked to be a citation that said he was using cisco kids. He said they were tearing them up. I personally haven't used them though.

Cisco Kid is a long plug, kind of like a stretch, but with a flat metal lip. I didnt even know they made these things anymore. Nobody really uses them, but I dont doubt that they'd still work.

The Ramada is the first tall building you see as you head south from Cape Henry. It's on the north side of Virginia Beach.

I also would like to know what a cisco kid is.

I don't know what a Cisco Kid is either to be honest. The Ramada is basically fishing along the ocean front. South of Cape Henry

a Cisco Kid is just a trolling lure similar to a strech 25 except for its old school from back in the day but you can still find them at some tackle shops!

Looks a lot like a Nothern Pike/Muskie lure to me. Yes, I know I relate everyhting to what I saw growing up in the North.

I will be out fishing next week borrowing a buddy's 20 footer and would like to do some troling with a cisco kid or a stretch 25. What type of setup should I use as far a rigging them, rod, and line strength. I have a wire line rig and have used that several years ago but I would like to try something different. I'm also interested in these umbrella setups.

What is a good depth to troll when you are out near the Ramada?

The cisco kid was the sh!t back in the old days. Remember trollin them around the islands when I was a kid, late 70's and the huge blues, loved em. Of course that was back when huge blues were as plentiful as flys on the eastern shore in the summer.
BTW- Long bay point sells them now, guess they are making a come back.
I often wonder, do I lure the fish...or do the fish lure me?

Yea, when I was a young Sprout we pulled a spread of Rag mops and Cisco Kids for the big Blues we even got a few large Grey trout on them.

Rag mops! I remember seeing one of those still attached to the cardboard backing in a buddies garage. biggrin.gif To prevent a bunch of questions, a Rag Mop was a lure that consisted of a lead head with 12" of toilet tank chain attached and cotton string woven through the links with a hook on the end. I heard they caught fish though. A Cisco Kid is a tried and true trolling plug from yesteryear. No reason they wouldn't work now.

I would have to agree. I remember using these trolling for Kings and wahoo. They were the hot plug along with what used to be called the "Jaw breaker". These lures work. I think the reason they died off was becuase of the metal lip. After a fue good raps at it, you may have to check it next to the boat to see if it's runnin true. You could always bend them back, but I guess with the plastic bills, you never had to do it. My thoughts. I still have a few and would use them in a heart beat. They have proven to catch their fair share of big ones, all species!
