If you head up the eastern shore, on the bay side, from the High Rise area, you will come by some ships that have been sunk end to end with an opening in the middle forming an entrance into Kiptopeake. These ship were truly made of cement and served as coastal freighters during WWII. They then served as a breakwater for what now is an non-existing ferry service.

And for quite a few years, they served as practice-bombing targets for pilots flying out of Langley. They used flour-filled bombs to better tell where they impacted. It's kind of weird to see water flowing out of their overboard discharges on the outgoing tide. Gives them that whole Scooby-Doo ghost-ship feel......
