Some navigational help would be great! I am trying to find a detailed map of tulls bay and the currituck sound. Is the currituck sound mainly freshwater until you go south to say.... manteo? Went out today with some family that stayed in for the weekend and hit bottom a few times in my little carolina 16dlx.

Are there places to definitely stay away from in the area? There are no markers that I have seen today or last weekend to warn of anything. We went and rode out to buoy 89 and 90 today and the water was like a sheet of glass, awesome for wide open running. We launched from a very little cabin and pad in tulls bay colony. Very shallow and nerve racking getting in and out of the canal

but we managed and had a decent ride. No tops of today though

You need the Back Bay /North landing river map by GMCO . currituck sports located south of you across form currituck high school should have it as well as a great sporting goods store. You are probably coming out of tulls bay which would on the western side of Knotts island closer to the mouth of north landing river. when you ran to # 90 you where almost to the KI ferry crossing. when you come out of tulls bay pick up #77 green just to your south. this is the intracostal waterway. if you follow the markers south you will come to coinjock channel. there are a couple restaruants and marine services.
give me a call if i can further assist you and maybe we can meet up out there sometime. As far as fish we get flounder, rockfish, drum, catfish bass crappie you name it. KI logo is sportsman pardise. also waterfowl hunting starts next week stay away from blinds with decoys out. if you are inteested in that i can helpyou as well.
Welcome neighbor !

Thanks for the info Todd. I will definitly give you a call, I can use all the help I can get down here being new to the area. One question KI logo? what is this? We are coming out of a channel off of tulls bay road that is only wide enough for one boat and about 1-2 feet deep at most. I currently have a 6 gallon tank but I am going to upgrade to a 12-18 at seasons end when they go on sale. I was hoping to catch some spot and croaker as I am not good at fresh water fishing(never been). Are there blue crab in the sound? I have seen several crab boats pulling pots out there.

KI = Knotts Island crabs, crabs, crabs plenty ! you can get a recreational commercial gear license which allows 5 pots per person. most of my fishing is in knotts island bay with artificials for stripers, puppy drum. my son fishes more and reminds me more succesful around here any way. spot and croaker are not abundant to my knowledge. a good place to fish are around the duck blinds and will find a good variety of fish.

Thanks for the reply. In VA it was legal to have 2 pots per person without a license. I will check to see if the same is in effect for NC. Went over across the sound yesterday to KI and it is a pretty place. Almost like time forgot the place. Very smooth over there and actually topped 40mph on the skiff. We didn't get a lot of opportuntiy to open up the Yamaha out in the bay being a flat bottom boat and all(extremely rough ride). If you get a chance(and I am sure you know already) women love to shed the suits in Tull's Bay. Went by a group of boats yesterday and all were "very relaxed"(uti). I never asked, what size boat do you have?

Thinking of taking the wife on a cruise over that way. Where is a good public ramp off of 168?
