An incredible fish was caught to our north in New Jersey on Saturday.
The damn monster was 38-1/2 inches long and weighed 24.3 lbs...must be the toxic waste
Between that horse croaker and this fish, I'm feeling pretty inadequate... censored2.gif

If it sticks as an IGFA record, it will beat the old one set in 1975 ( 22 pounds 7 oz)

Hell I'd be happy with one half that size!!!

The fish is a monster, but the igfa is bound to have a hard time with the seperated gills. controversy is that it may have been caught by a gill net or ground trawl. the fish does look pretty beat up too.

congrats on a real monster of a fish. lots of good eaten to be had there , but good luck getting it registered as a record. looking at the pictures the fish appears to have been caught in a drag net. worked in a seafood store for a while and saw very similar marking (wounds) on all the big flounder brought in. I'm not saying this fish was not caught on a rod and reel just it looks real rough around the gills and just above the tail. hoping for the best for them either way and at lest we know that they are out there to be had. smilie_daumenpos.gif

Im in NJ right now, the rumor is that it was caught in a net by a commercial guy and given to the lady to register.

That's the rumor anyway, the same lady holds the record for winter flounder and trout.

You can see in pictures that the fish was beat up. The fish is not available for inspection anymore, according to the angler, raccoons got to it on her porch.

This does not sound like a great story.

I hate to say it, but that does sound a bit "fishy"........................

How could it go down as a world record if the folks that declair it a record cannot inspect it. Thats like me killing some monster buck, 18 point,34" spread, Thats like Having BillyBob at the feed and seed check it in, Oh I took pictures, look. But a bunch of squirls came on my front porch and ate the horns.

But it was the new record.

IGFA requires pics from different angles to help ID the fish. I'm sure when they see the pics a big red flag will pop up. Sometimes the local IGFA rep is called to qualify the fish...not sure how close her rep was.

I don't know all the details and I don't want to fuel the rumor fire, but if I had a potential world record...it wouldn't be left out on the porch. blink.gif
REEL DAZE
if it was eaten by a raccoon weight the raccoon because if he ate a censored2.gif flounder that big he is now a world record, story does not match up from everything that is being said another thing if i caught that that fish you would sure hell see a smile on my face her pic looks like she is a little worried dont you all think. tight gill netn oops i meen tight lines

Cheater's never win. She doesn't look like a winner to me.

Doesn't an IGFA record require that the fish not be mutilted???
Marlin Maniac
Yes, the IGFA has specific rules against mutilated fish being considered for records. I don't think it would have stood up to the type of examination required for an all tackle world record. Now the racoon might. biggrin.gif

I just read an article in The Fisherman mag. Apparently she passed a lie detector and all the criteria for a world record...BUT one...during her testimony she stated that during the fight she laid the rod on the gunnel for a short time to rest...That's the NO, NO!

She passed the mutilation test because IGFA considers mutilation as" Mutilation to a fish prior to landing or boating the catch, caused by sharks, other fish, mammals, or propellers that remove or pentrate the flesh..."

Her mutilation was from removing of the jig after landing...which IGFA deemed "consistent with our interpretation of mutliation"

Sorry to here that resting the rod causeed her not to get the record, but rules is rules.
Mega Bite
They should check to see if that sucker is a Halibut.
stripezone
Even if she didn't catch it, it was still out there. The monster croaker, a big censored2.gif flounder. The world record fish are awake for 2007/2008 that means someone is gonna catch a world record striper. (Hopefully) Better get out their now before they fall asleep for another billion years. biggrin.gif
