Mike,.
Some of that sulfer comes off the weed patches, but we've seen them appear in the middle of no where from upwelling. Usually a hot bed for fish.
Full story...
Left Rudee on Gypsy around 5:30 and headed for the weather buoy. About 3 miles out from the buoy Dave and I set out a couple high speed wahoo lures to see if we could catch something, but no luck. Set regular meat spread and trolled the buoy. First fish hits blue and pink squid chain and Dave brings it in. This fish is all heart and gives Dave a work out. Turns out to be the smallest Tuna we've ever seen..small 8" Blackfin.

Next fish comes on the blue and white Tiki Bar in the middle of the spread...20 pound Wahoo. Circle around back to the buoy and get covered up with Fat Alberts. All lines got knocked, 3 came tight and we released all FA's.
Started trolling south towards the Cigar from reports of weeds. We have a big bait out on the left short just in case Mr Marlin showed up. I see a splash behind it and it gets hit. Hold the bait in position and the fish comes back and takes it. Margaret gets in the chair and we land another Wahoo off of a dolphin colored Get Reel Lure "Bill Collector".
Find the weeds and we fight mahi the rest of the day, several coming in 2 and 3 at a time. We had one that came leaping into the spread from about 100 yards to our east and nailed the blue and pink squid chain..this fish was focused on the bait and was charging. Had several bit off throughout the day and had steady action from lines in to about 1:30, then it slowed off. Great day with Dave and Pat from Billable and Ted and Margaret, owners of Gypsy. I needed this day to retsore my faith!!!
The wahoo are out there for sure!
Catch 'em Up!!
