G Spot
G Spot report: Monday 3 Sep.
After a nice leisurely troll along the buoy line East of "CH" I had boated a few lively blues which I placed in the well. I continued east towards the CLT but decided to stop short at the tower reef. Within two minutes after floating a 2.5 lb blue out the wife started screaming..... A BIG fish was all over the blue that I was using as bait but to make a long story short the hook failed to find it's mark. Discouraged I reeled in my mangled blue fish only to find that it was still alive and kicking although it had been roughed up pretty good. After resetting a time or two I was about ready to call it quits when line started screaming of my 330 gti (same blue fish bait). After about 20-25 min. of pure hell I got my first look. A huge shark! shark.gif Although I didn't quite get it boat side for a positive ID it looked like a Sandbar or possibly a Dusky Shark around 8' and 200+lbs. With only me and the wife aboard it made for interesting day to say the least. She did a great job handling the boat and the 330gti spooled with 40lb Momi held it's own too. I guess It only leaves me to blame..... I should have been using wire instead of 150lb mono. The shark eventually cut the leader for a premature release.
Still a great day at sea. Hell...I'd of set it free anyways. Just nice to see big sharks from time to time.

There are some big sharks out there. State record Thresher was caught in the area around the CLT a couple years ago. I've seen a few sharks there myself...glad I don't spearfish!! Congrats on hooking him up!!
Marlin Maniac
The state record Mako was caught there too, over 700 lbs. There are some big sharks around that tower and reef area.

Funny thing, a dive boat pulled up to the tower just as I hooked up. I don't think I'd want to be in the water with a pissed off shark that was being pursued by an angler.

The state record thresher was caught at the triangle wreck in 04 or 05. There were a bunch of big thresher sighted there that year and someone went for it I remeber seeing the pics of it on the scale at LBP it was huge, had a tail about 7' long. Rumors later surfaced of it being sold commercially, but that was only a rumor as far as I know just like all the other rumors that surface after any record fish is caught in VA.

SWS had a awesome article on Live blue rigging. The treble hook rubber banded to the tail is a deadly rig !! Thats what the montauk guys do for big Mako's.
