Quick question... How far off shore out of oregon inlet are the charters traveling to tuna fish? 25 miles+/-? and are the traveling south towards the hatteras point? I've fished out of teachs with my own boat and usually only have to go 20 to 25 miles out but hate to drive the extra hour if not necessary.

They are most likely heading to the Point or the Tuna Hole...about 30 miles out. There is a great temp break right on the Point that looks real nice. They may also be running a little deeper along the break for those billfish. Good luck if you go!!

We went out saturday. We left ahead of the fleet, but it sounded like only a half dozen charters went out of the fishing center. There were about 10 or so boats out around the 750/900. Billfishing. About 54 miles as I remember. Didn't here a word about Tuna on that day. We we're way overboard, but the tuna bite normally would be back where Don was saying. 30-35 miles.

The drive to teaches is unnessesary.

This time of year a lot of OI charters fish north for the BIG white bite, near the 000's. The bite usually remains until a hurricane stirs things up. Then the fish are off, never did figure out where they go from their. The bite is usually about 50 miles from the inlet. The VB fleet runs down there also. This is when the VB and OI fleets get in touch biggrin.gif .

The "Point" is about 42 miles from OI Fishing Center. Due east out past the navy tower, the shelf is around 30 miles, maybe 35 miles.
