With the high water temps and slight drop in offshore action I decided it would be time to hit some wrecks and see what was living there. Don (Old School), Eric (sawdust) and good friend Ron Banta left Rudee inlet at sun up and commenced bottom dropping. We had to hunt around a bit to find the fish but we finally connected. While, it was not wide open we ended the day with about 45 keeper Sea Bass and about 10 Triggers.
Water temp was 74 degrees we had quite a bit of current and squid was the bait of choice.

Congrats on a great day. Two weeks ago I had luck at the art. reef out of oregon inlet. We caught 6 nice triggers and 8 sea bass but I had a heck of a time filleting the triggers. The skin is very tough and I could barely cut through it while trying to fillet. What is the secret to filleting them.

Cook em with the skin on. When the skin turns hard the meat is broiled inside the skin. It breaks off in flakes and you eat the meat off the bone. The Skin will keep all the moisture inside the fish making the meat very very good !....

I filet triggers with an electic filet knife, or as Bob mentioned, leave the skin on if you're grilling or planking. I'd like to have a pair of boots made from trigger skin, it's tougher than shark hide.......

I do it with a regular filet knife. The smaller the better. Once you cut the outline of the filet, the skin will pull off just like a mahi.

Draw your outline around the skin with a utility knife...safes your good knife. I started using one on tunas and won't clean one without it anymore.

I will own up to my lack of knowledge.
Last week I was asking how to clean a Spade fish.
I see now that what I had caught was a 3 lb Trigger.
Whats funny, Sue told me a few days ago that it didn't look like a Spadefish , and I was, oh yea it was a Spade.
We are not having a change of command, on the Lucky Dawg, But Sue went from Mate to Admiral on our boat.

Nice tip! I never thought of that. I will have one in my boat from now on.
