Paul you came to the right place, no one likes a useless lure.

The penn 6/0's are fine, with the size of the tuna we have been catching, I would shy away from using a penn 4/0.

What kind of boat you have?

I pride myself on being a very budget minded fisherman. I fish with mostly Penn 6/0's that I have bought used. I have 3 6/0's that were made in the 1950's.

As far as lures, Don (skinny's Kid) makes some very nice lures, ask him and Im sure he will point out some must have tuna/mahi/hoo killers.

Come to our meet and greets and meet everyone. The only way I learned to visualize the lures and spreads was to go with people and catch fish. It looks like you already have a few offers.

Offshore fishing is an addiction...be careful!!! biggrin.gif

Like Eric said, try to gt to one of our Meet and Greets. Dates and info will be posted on the General Chat board(which reminds me I need to set one for this month)

Also posting like you did helps. Look for guys searching for crews like Troy. There are always people needing others to fill a boat. Troy's boat is a great platform to fish from, by the way.

Talking about spreads and lures and places is good, but being there in the mix is the real way to learn. Watch the reports, most will tell where they were so you can figure out the hot spots. I write a weekly report on the homepage and try to cover all the action...check that too. Continue asking questions...tons of great guys/gals with lots of info to help out.

Billfishing is hot right now, but it won't be long before the fall tuna run starts. There's scattered dolphin and some really good wahoo action now too.

Good luck!

You mentioned "Meet and Greet" when and where does this usually take place?
Is it posted somewhere?

Watch the "General Forum" for Meet and Greet info or the Calender. I'm thinking of having one next Fri or Sat(21st or 22nd).
