Left Rudee on "Wired Up" with Neal(Wirebender), Neal's bro Mitchell, Mike K(knothead), Mike W(RockinRobin) and myself. Headed to the Canyon via "Lake Atlantic" Conditions were out of this world! Set lines south of the Canyon near 44 fathom wreck. Had a rip and before having the spread out we get hit...possible small tunas. Had porpoise around and bait fish jumping. Around 8:30 knothead yells "Marlin!!" He's on the right flat. Do the drop back and he's on. Pass the rod to knothead for his first billfish ever.

Neal sets a course north towards the Canyon preparing for the afternoon forecast...good call by the way as the winds came up to 15-20+ out of the north and the seas followed. It went for lake calm to 3-4 stacked. Continue to troll along the south wall fighing weeds all day. We trun to ride the waves and are resetting lines, when Mike W yells..."There's a fish behind your bait!" Look to see a white surfing down the face of a wave giving cahse to the left long...do the drop back and game on. Hand off to Mitchell and fight ensues. Several swells and a few splashes later...scratch our second white.

Had a blue in the spread but he was not real aggressive. Hit a rigged mackerel on the short and then fell back to hit the GRL Big Poppa. Left us a bothered a buddy boat a few minutes later.

Caught a couple bailers off the weeds earlier in the day. Had one come up right behind the boat while fighting the first white, but he left as soon as he saw that marlin come close to the transom.

Great day, great crew...everybody worked keeping those lines clean of weeds and bringing stuff in when fish were on...Great job and thanks to Neal for great trip once again!

You're right Keith...if there's billfish out there Neal will find 'em.

Donny, I gotta tell ya, you are da man. Don't get me wrong, Dave and Neal are outstanding captains that can put you on fish any given day (And they don't yell at you.....hope Pete noticed ). But bud, I got 2 days of watching you in action. Work hard, stay alert to the spread all day, and 3 for 3 on the dropbacks (thats gotta get the stats up..lol). Of all the schooling I got this weekend, watching you dropping-back on those whites will have the most lasting impression on me (followed by a close 2nd of another couple hundred dollars of new terminal tackle and rigs ).

Something else that will never leave me is the fact that out of all these years weve both been fishing, never having fished together, you put me on my first white. Way too cool.

Thanks Mike! I gotta give credit to Neal for teaching those drop-backs. He's the master at that. If you want to learn to do something, learn from the best. The greatest thng that any of us can do is to pass our knowledge on to others.
