Yankee Rowboat
Went to Hatteras Harbor friday night and stayed in one of the appartments they have. Much better than leaving a 0 dark 30. Had my buddy Steve and Ray on board and Ray's girlfriend Michelle. This was here first time offshore and I don't think it was her last. The waves were coming straight at us on the way out to the Rock Pile so we didn't want her to lose her cookies so out we went at about 12 knots. After a couple of miles I decided to troll some high speed lures for something to do. Put out a couple of Zucker feathers with crome heads out and forgot about them. About half way out the first fat albert hit one and Michelle catch about a 2 lb fat albert with to date was the biggest fish she ever catch. One happy lady. 15 minutes later fat albert number two hit. Almost the same size. Hit number three didn't stay tight long enough to see what it was. About three miles from the rock pile we slowed to about 6 mph and set the spread. 30 minutes later about a 10 lb fat albert hit the wtfb line with a boone bird and a blue/white shirted ho rig by get reel lures ( same lure that Don uses for the conga line ) nice fight for Michelle and then it went slow. From about 9 am till 2 pm we had a few knock downs but nothing tight. Then the long stbd outrigger pops but nothing, let it back twice but nothing, brought it in to check the set up and found a 10 yft on the line. Real cute guy all lite up and ready for a fight. Thought about putting a tag in it but figured the stress on the little guy was to much. Between 2 and 4 pm we had a number of knock downs and only one tight line. Michelle catch the last fish which was a 23 lb wahoo and this put a big smile on everyone onboard the Yankee Rowboat. It's great to feel the rod bend and hear the drag scream, but theres a better feel when the person is a first timer. pink and blue got most of the knock downs but the wahoo got stung by a red and black sea witch. Sea's settled down after lunch when the rain faded away. Didn't catch alot of fish and less in the cooler but had a great time. Some how me and Steve came down with terrible head colds and spent most of Sunday laying around. Sorry guys for this late report.....Jake
