Is this for the Bay side and it's tributarys and inlets off the Bay? And if so before Dec. 10 and after Dec. 31 are you allowed 2 per day? Or is the season closed and this is the only time you can fish? How about on the ocean side is it still 2-per day?Looks like I will have to read and study the rules and regulations for this up coming year. Thanks for any help on letting us know before we go!

Everything stayed the same except it goes to a 1 fish per person limit from December 10-31. The ocean season is the same.

And from what I understand, that 1 fish can be 18" - 28" or >= 34".

Well for me in the Potomac we can still keep 2-fish during the fall season. And I am planing on coming to the Va. Beach area as well this fall and it looks like it's 2-down there as well! I am guessing they spawn in parts of Bay and that's why you can only keep 1-fish; I beleive no greater than 32" in the Bay.

The reason given, according to their calculations, the recreational anglers in VA have taken more than their fair share of Bass ever since 2001.

Maryland and the Potomac River have been under quota, according to their calculations.
Little Bit
How does the DGIF figure out how much was caught last year? Nobody has to report there catch, right? How do they know that we caught 900,000 lbs too much? This can get confusing.

I hear you on that Eric, for some reason they don't like to take a left turn into the Potomac and I can't blame em for that with all the pollution from DC floating down river animal-smiley-011.gif I stopped keeping track of this summer how many times they closed the area beaches around here from pollution. The fishing isn't the same as it was 40+ years ago around here. Of course some people may not agree and it's just my opinion, so I understand being below quota around here. There are a few big hogs caught up here but it's more to the mouth of potomac to the bay. It's probably 1.5 to 2.0 hour ride to get there from where I live to the bay and it's 2.0 to get to Va. Beach. I will try the bay this year and I allready know what's it like down at Va. beach from last year and I will let you know how I do.

And if you are in the ocean it's still 2 over 28" right?
and the 3nm limit? Is it still in effect? I know there has been some talk of doing away with it.

I guess it's all good since I normally fish the ocean during late Dec/Jan but I sure would like to see the 3nm limit go away.
skinnys-kid
If they take away the 3mile limit then one day the ocean will be down to 1 fish per person...or closed.

Even the person giving the brief to the commission questions the reliability of the measures used to establish how many fish are caught by recreational fishing. Click the link below to hear the discussion at the public hearing.

9. PUBLIC HEARING: Proposed amendments to Regulations 4VAC20-252, "Pertaining to the Taking of Striped Bass”, to establish management measures for the 2007 Fall recreational fishery. APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY A NO-TAKE SLOT LIMIT BETWEEN 28 AND 34 INCHES WITH A ONE FISH PER DAY LIMIT FROM DEC. 10 TO DEC. 31. THIS OPTION WAS FAVORED OVER CLOSING THE STRIPER SEASON A WEEK EARLY, ON DEC. 25.

If this warm weather keeps up, the real good bay fishing will come after the 31st anyway.

It's going to be 92 this week!!! mad.gif
