Does anyone else fish for blues or am I a lone ranger on this one? I think it's a blast because of the fight you get for the size of fish you catch. I've been using casting jigs and metal jigs to catch them, but i've seen other people using different things that i couldnt make out. I know that i'm not catching quite as many as i should be when following a school of 200+ fish around. What does everyone else use to get the blues?
Thanks,
Lee

I love catching blues. I like throwing Gotcha's at em if they are on the small side and a rebel windcheater when blues and rockfish are mixed in together. I bend the barbs down on the hooks so they are a little easy to deal with.

blue fish are just one of those animals that will hit just about anything. if your having trouble getting them in the boat in numbers pay attention to what comes out of them when they spit up . lots of times they are feeding on shiners or some other small bait fish try to match size and color of what you see and your numbers should improve.
as far as finding them look around structure, rocks, pylons etc. moving water helps they seem to be alot like stripper that way. small metal gotcha plugs work great (metal will last longer) have had blues rip out the hooks and cut through the bodies before no kidding.
good luck and tight lines

How big do the blues get in the bay, I've caught alot of little blues 10"-12" trolling clark spoons. I've seen the pictures of the blues folks have caught offshore; Big difference, do they get that big in the bay?

I was up near the mouth of the Potomac last weekend, and we saw about 10 different schools of them. 2 of the schools we're all snappers but there were about 300 or so in each school. It was a sight to see! They we're in a big ball just under the surface kind of like you'd see baitfish. We also ran into a huge school of shad?!?!?! I thought that was a little strange for this time of year. We hit one school of 5-7 pounders there we're probably about 20 or so in the school we took 4 from it and what a fight that was on light spinning tackle!

LEECM3 - I think, and correct me anyone if i'm wrong, that the blues that are caught offshore are the same blues that are here in the bay?? Or atleast the same blues that are right on the coast... I've seen some 10+ pound blues pulled out of the bay and by some of the bite marks i've gotten on the spot i've pulled in, i'll vouch for them being there!
