Thanks for posting the report JD
A couple of clarifications
Sat we had 13 keepers(NY 2 @28)1 over our limit that was released
Boat & Hotel (Harborside) cost each of us 525 before drinks & food stogies smokes(for the captain)
We arrived at the boat on Friday at 11- Lady Grace V a 42 Wesmac powered by 800 Cat. Captain is Captain Mario and Mate Pete
Departed at noonish and caught our bait. Headed out to the point in 4 fters that the rig powered thru.
Started out dropping 2 baits till we found the striper bite and dropped a third . Blues were on the prowl chomping so we were constantly rerigging for cutoffs or chaffing. As soon as we were coverd up with 6-8lb blues(some in the 10 range) we would regroup and move. FinAdvisor had his personal best a mid thirty lber and caught 2 others on that size range. My cuz John caught his PB at 41lbs and Pepe might have had a PB also. Ended up with 30 stripers according to Captain Mario, I thought it was 29 but I was fried from driving up at 3am. We all had plenty of fish and decided to stop at 4ish. Oh and we had to go back a get more bait inbetween the carnage . Most of these fish were mid twenty plus lb fish
Sat we departed at 6:30 rearmed with more circle hooks and leader
Steamed around the point in 6 fters to hide from the wind and catch bait
on the south side. Took a little longer to get the bait but headed out to the grounds to get 1 striper and plenty of blues. Went back for bait and regroup
and worked hard in the pm to get out limit again. Fished to almost the same time as the day before. Fish were in the 16-31lb range
Captain Mario worked his butt off to get us on the fish and mate pete kept us retied an baited up. We had 4/6 who could do all the retying while Pete helped the other 2 and gaffed all the keeper fish and pullled the hooks out.
We usually fished 2 or 3 baits depending on the drift and the blues. As soon as one would hook up WE got another bait in and rotated thru the lineup. Reel locked up on FF riges with 8' 80 lb leader an 5-8oz lead anywhere from 6" to 18" 30lb for the lead length. By end of day Captain Mario said it was WTF time and we were all in. Only once did a striper tangle us and that was day 2.
Im too tired to type anymore-got up at 5:30 to depart to get home.
I will add to this later with pictures and further commentary
I wll try an answer any ? as well
Captain Mario is the real deal and the wesmac is awesome-plowed thru 6 fters Sat, stacked close and throwing spray all over but we were under cover
Thanks to Old Hat for putting this all together-Sat was a trip to remember
Depth for the stripers wa s30-60 ft
