Fished on Fillet N Release on an overnighter on Tuesday (10/16) night. Got out to South Wall of the Canyon and set up for a perfect drift. Drifted the Canyon wall the entire night at about 1 mph. The conditions were excellent, but there was not much life at all. We had 2 sword rigs down with lights and chunked with butterfish all night and the only thing that we raised were squids. Another boat was out there doing the same thing as us and he did not have anything come up either.

The next morning we trolled into the fingers and caught a Wahoo. We deep dropped for a short period of time without success. We then worked the massive grass mats inside of the fingers for Mahi and did not see anything other than some very small ones.

On the way out, I spoke to a commercial guy on the radio and the only thing that he caught was Wahoo at around 20 fathoms.

Where have all the fish gone? We expected it to be a great night. Maybe it is the weather??

Water temp. was around 72-73 at the Canyon and 69 around the fingers. Good luck if you head out.

Fillet and release Mike
We were pulling for you as well as an overnighter is a bigger deal then a day run to the canyon. I thought for sure you would crush em and come home with a mixed bag(mako, sword, tuna and dolphin). However, if you are like me you love nothin better then stickin a hoo with a sharp gaff just like when a hokie spears a hoo and pile drives em into the dirt. oh baby!!!!!
You'll catch em up next time
and thanks for the intel

Thanks for the report. I hope you had a good time anyhow with your crew. Being out there at night can be a lot of fun with your buddies - Fellowship!

Mike stayed up all night chunking a stream of butterfish that went out to the mid atlantic ridge. also stood watch on the radar while the rest of us died and caught some sleep. what an animal! Even though no hits at night it was a great time and will be repeated soon. It really is a different place out in the deep at night....

Mike,
Glad you got out there to enjoy a great night. A fish in the box is not defeat by any stretch. Hope you crush 'em next time!
Tight lines.
