I have noticed that many folks are chunking for stripers at the MMBT. I am not familiar with this method so any information on what is chunking and how do you do it would be greatly appreciated?
Thanks. smile.gif

Anchor up current of the bridge let your anchore line back till you get withn castining distance of the bridge. Rember to leave you with some "O Crap" room if the anchor breaks lose. I use menhaden that is frozen or freash if there bitting it don`t matter but chunk it up toss the heads tails and other chunks over if the current is moving hard somtimes you have to toss the chunks out infront of the boat to get to sink by bridge use a carolina rig with 7/0-9/0 hook. once you get your limit and decide to c&r you might want to switch to a circle hook or even start with one cause even useing a big hook you will still gut hook a 18 inch fish or smaller. That is what I have notice with my recent trips out and maybe its all the words of wisdom I have heard from Goerge but that is what I am going to start useing a circal hook more often even being a die hard J hook person Good luck the Hrbt isnt a bad place to try either

Circle hooks rule!

Just let the fish take the bait and lift up. I found with stripers and circle hooks you do not want the fish to take the bait very long if you are C&R. The fish will try and swallow the bait real fast, so you need to get the hook in his jaw quickly or you will still gut hook the bass with a circle hook.

Can you give a bait shop for the menhaden flat? Hampton or NN? Southside:?

I usually chunk by staying out late drinking and eating fried ballyhoo for breakfast. On a rough day, it's chunkfest!! biggrin.gif

Try Amory's in Hampton. It's right by the Air & Space Museum.

Call ahead to see if it's fresh or frozen. Sometimes fresh can be hard to come by.
