Hey guys.. I know this is a fairly dumb question... I was raised on the Perquimans river in NC, right off the Albemarle sound... That particular property has since been sold, but I was wondering if any of you guys ever run from that far to the ocean... If so, what inlet did you run out of??? I figure it would take a bit of time to even make it to the Currituck sound, and I don't even know the closest ocean access point.... Also, I'm ashamed to say, I never really got a chance to do much fishing in the Albemarle sound.... Does anybody know anything about that fishery??? Thanks.

From the Perquimans, the quickest ocean access is Oregon Inlet. I guess you could go up the Intracoastal waterway to the Ches. Bay. If you wanted an adventure.
Some of the best striper fishing can be found in the Albemarle sound. Stripers have to run through the sound to go up the Roanoke and the Chowan rivers. I've caught a ton of rock around Mann's Harbor and up in the Roanoke river, the Albemarle connects the two. I also know some good flounder fishing and catfish fishing goes on in the Albemarle around the mouth of the Chowan. Hope this helps.

I caught my very first striper on a fly rod at Manns Harbor.

Oregon Inlet is the closest ocean access as noted above.
Right now there are some stripers around the Sound Bridge and the bombing targets off Harvey Point. If you are trolling, you need to get your baits close to the pilings. Also, a few white perch are scattered around and a few flounder have been caught.
