I am new to the area also. Recently pulled my boat to Jim Strong's Seaford Marina and will be launching from nearby Thomas Marina on Presson Rd.

As I come out of the marina, I'll be only about a mile from the bay. Is anyone on this board familiar with that area? I'll be coming right out of Chisman Creek. Obviously, any advice to someone new to the area will be more than I currently know. I hope to get my Boston Whaler Dauntless 18 in the water next week, for the 1st time in saltwater. She has only ever been on Lake Erie.

Being new, I still haven't really found anyone to fish with, but, heck, I can go by myself. My fishing buddy of nearly 30 years died of stomach cancer last summer, so I was going to have to find someone else to fish with anyway. Unfortunately, my son (15) who is a tough fisherman, has to go to school! I live north of Williamsburg, and have found it difficult to catch a fish without my bait in the water. I'm retired, so no reason not to fish.

I will check this board later to see if anyone has comments on the Seaford area. I have done some flounder fishing (from shore) and croaker and spot, from piers and a charter, but obviously want to learn the striper fishing. We have been to the York River State Park Pier a few times since we moved here and done really well on blue crabs, but only a few croaker. I realize, I'm not in Kansas ('er Lake Erie) anymore! Really, I moved here from Fishers, Indiana. That's "Fishers" with no fishing!

Sincerely,

we fish out of that area some and there is plenty to do. This time of year the specs are in pretty good off Goodwin Island and Poqouson Flats in 3-5' water. Reds in tight to the march points at high water. Stripers also in that water on good current. Out in the bay, York Spit usually has a nice run of stripers in late November: fish drop offs or fish big birds: gulls and gannets.
If you fish the flats in tight, go out on an incoming tide so that you don't get stuck.
Be careful out there in the bay; it can get nasty out there when current and wind work against each other!

I'm fairly new to the area too - got a small boat but am having a blast. Best advice I've heard is to fish when the winds' blowing S or SW - stay home when it's coming in from the N/NE. That's prob more for the small boat crowd - don't want to get swamped. Check the VA Pilot for the fishing report on Thurs - the Daily Press for it on Fri. Play detective among the fishing reports, catches, where they weigh them, local talk & these boards. I've been able to get my goal of specs, croakers, & stripers by reading & fishing the hot spots mentioned from these sources. Also - buy good maps w/marked depths - at your tackle store - they tell the story. You can ID the shallow water hazards AND fishing holes when you take the time to look them over.

Do a little homework & it'll pay off - Good Luck!
