We fished for stripers for a couple of hours Wednesday between the SBC and the First. Not much going on. Near the first, I saw a boat cut across another's line and it got tangled it boat 1's prop. Without reeling in his lines, boat one came over and tilted up his prop so boat 2 could retrieve his lure. Then boat 2's lines got tangled in boat 1's prop and he, two, lifted his engine...well, you get the picture. Last I saw of them, the two boats were astern of each other, props up, drifting slowly towards Europe. Lesson? There are so many, I couldn't list them all. biggrin.gif

There are many times during Striper Season when the single thought of catching a fish does not allow some to think about how to drive a darn boat, be courteous, or anything else. We call that "Tunnel Vision".
Watch out for the idiots...and remember you are outnumbered.
Tight Lines.

When men are chasing women I know what they are thinking with. When men are chasing fish it isnt cerebral in origin either.

Funny stuff! Unfortunately, all the replies are true!

Simple. Don't cut behind another boat when lines are out. I've had people do this to me numerous times in Lynnhaven. Had this happen to me Wed night.. lost a fresh spool of line. No doubt the guy in the other boat was doing this on purpose. Common courtesy seems to have gone out the window in that area.

When you're fishing along side the bridge tunnel ("when in Rome do like the Romans") it might be a good idea to use the same technique that 90% of those around you are using. For example it might not be a good idea to try trolling beside the piles if every body else is jigging and casting. Like wise it might not be wise to pull into a line of boats trolling and stop to cast the piles. Just have to use common sense. It gets crowed ..... lol lol.

There is always one boat jigging in the middle of 100 boats trolling. But that's apart of expeiance.

My problem is guys geting the middle of everyone else using 18ft outrigers, that and the poachers.

I came in Rudee a month ago and spooled 3 anglers from the shore. We were riding the left bank, but I guess guys cast completly over there and leave them out when boats pass. It took a hour to get the line out.

that and the poachers.

Who are the poachers?
peejcj8
The poachers are the guys who either do not know the limits and seasons on striped bass or dont care. Take a ride out to the CBBT after the closure on 31 dec. You will see them, I guess its hard to release fish in a catch and release only season?

Can someone say," Striper Season is Here!" Some of these boaters should
never, ever, never, ever!!!!! own a boat. You know who you are!!!!!! Just try and
be careful out there, we don`t need to lose anyone due to careless operation of
a boat..To you yakkers, when you get out there in a chop, at times you guys
drop down between 2 seas and become hidden, carry a banner or something to make yourselves more visiable and when it`s starts getting dark, for heavens sake, get some lights on those yaks!!!!!! I almost run one down last fall coming into Little C. about 6:30 p.m... Not knocking you yakkers, I would have one if I was in shape and younger. Please, Just Be Careful Out THere--EVERYONE!!!!
Now go gett`um!!!

Knot Too Fast
Agreed. Yakkers are the motorcycles of the water (not meant as an insult since I ride). I am always watching for them and when I see one, I make note of it and try to spot him every few minutes or so and if I don't, I start looking near my bow and outward really fast. Yakkers...Please do every thing in your power to be noticed.
