Left Cape Charles Harbor Sat. morning when the wind started to slack off. Trolled daisy chains and umbrellas on the channel edge from 36A heading north. Marked plenty of bait and fish, but no bites. Switched to eels when the water layed down, still no bites. Didn't see anybody else catching either. Got bored so we tied on crippled herrings and ran over to the birds working inshore off Cape Charles. We pounded the schoolies and kept throwing back 19 inch fish becasue it was too easy. Of course the fish kept getting smaller. Finally put one in the box around 3 p.m. Kept on jigging and catching . Set the hook on a nice bite and thought I was snagged until it started swimming. 15 minutes later we got a look. I had a nice striper on my hook and we both saw the nice big one swimming with it. No time for a pitch rod and my buddy netted my 39 inch fish. That was a lot of fun on my 965 Penn. We never expected that one.
Sunday we went eeling on a charter boat..2 bites...no fish. We had fun with the schoolies later.
Ran out Monday morning on my boat trying to find fish out past 36A. Marked loads of fish and bait again....no bites. The fog made us head in early. Stopped by a good rip with a couple of gulls working it on the way back. Caught 10 schoolies on 4 inch Storms and Rapalas. Then my buddy sets the hook on one while using 14 pound test. Ended up briefly chasing that one before we netted it. 40.5 inch fish couldn't resist the Storm. Then the rip died down and we headed in.
Big fish on light tackle-got to love it.
