What is the best time of year for dolphin, how far out are they (typically) and what size boat is needed?

June out of Hatteras comes to mind.

may out of hatteras is usually when they show up in size and numbers. Limits of gaffers for everyone fishing is not uncommon.

I 2nd that!

Outta Hatteras Inlet .....mid May till Mid June is best for Gaffer's ...and limits at that!

thanks for the replies guys, How far out typically (20,40, 50+ miles)? Trying to see how big a boat I need to get to them.

Out of H.I. may and june probally 20 to 25 miles to dolphin maybe more depending on currents and temps, but this is from my limited experence.
