Tuna fishing is usually at its peak in March/April. Limits of big gaffers in May. Also big blue marlin in May but more scattered.

Both of us seemed to do pretty good the first week in June on the gaffers. The best rates on houses down there is before the children get out of school.

Dolphin was everywhere last year, we caught some gaffers in June and July. May is a great time too, with a lot of different fish in the mix.

My log book had 9 trips on it out of Teachs from the last week of March to mid July and some of the best fishing was the first two weeks of May with Gaffers,YFT,Wahoo being predominant species. This is a great time of year to put up the kite over the 280 rock or the clark wreck for YFT. Conch

From May on, you'll also get a better chance of favorable winds. March and April you may spend more time at the docks then on the seas.

Skinny hit the nail on the head!!! I took my 24 Albemarle down there 5 years ago...rented a slip for the month of April at Odens. A cool experience but I truly learned what my boat can do! It blew every weekend (and most of the week too) and it made the fishing miserable. We caught some fish but my rig paid for it. I'll give you an idea, my GPS which is flush mounted on the dash (full enclosure, hard top) shorted out due to water filling up INSIDE of it...so much water came in under the seam in my enclosure from taking big seas over the bow again and again...it was nasty.Anyway, gaffers I too would say 2nd week in May or so...should be great and of course, everything else is a possibility as well. Hope you have a great week of weather...if you do, you are sure to catch fish!Glenn

If your needing a place to stay, check out the rooms at Hatteras Harbor. I've stayed there and was pleased with it. If your into catching, I'd say all of May and the first part of June. After Memorial Day remember the rates go up.....Jake
