Man, Talk about road rage. Saw a couple of fights this morning. Glad my kids weren't around. I realize there is a line for the ramp, but the turn lant coming north is a legal turn. Guys were holding up everyone instead of showing a little patience and basic common courtesey. Freakin idiots. Glad VB's finest showed up. Things moved great after that. Fishing on the other hand wasnt nearly as exciting.

Had truck trouble and couldn't make it this weekend - sounds like I missed the show.

Yeah, it was awful this morning. We witnessed the incident. I hear ya that it's a legal turn but there should only be ONE line to get into the ramp.

May be thats why they call it RUDEe Inlet ...... sport-smiley-002.gif

The problem is where are these guys during the summer months. Most come to our ramp during striper season and don't give a s--- about those who use it year round. I have fished out of there for 18 years and the only time I see rudeness is when the bay season closes.

What does everyone exspect, 100+boats with there crew. For most a 2 hr wait to launch or bring in. There is not much patients left at that time.
Just like concerts, Va Beach police needs to be there every weekend directing traffic till this striper blitz is over.
I was heading to oc till the guy that was going with me got there early, and diverted me. No need to get in a line you can see when you come across the rudy inlet bridge.

This morning there was a line out on the street when I got there at 5:30 and I did not count but must of been 30 or more boat trailers parked.

fishing4.gif Unfortunately, I know that when I plan to trailer my boat there, I also have to plan on camping out Half of the night before! I plan my trip so that I can get the boat in the water by 3:30 or 4:00 am., Tie the boat off, park and either take a nap or head off in the dark! " Blessed be the Fortunate ones that can Afford to Pay Marina Fees " and remember- Standard UFC rules apply to Ramp Fighting... when your opponent Taps.. Let him Up!

I came by OC around 7:30am on Sat and saw the line. I just kept driving and put in at Lynnhaven. There was plenty of room and no wait. It is a good alternative if you don't want to wait at OC. On another note, the fishing was very slow for us, a few hits, markd a ton of bait around sandbridge and false cape, nothing else. I am glad to see some people caught a few. I trolled right alongside Still Thinkin' for a bit trying to spy on the gear. No luck, they must have had a scrambler on. Hopefully things will be better for the shootout this week. Good luck to everyone else entering.
bobdu11
hahaha...we did indeed have the scrambler on....we threw everything at em to scratch out 5 fish....hard fishing with that much pressure....

The Ramp is crazy, that's for sure....The people coming from the south to Owls Creek have just as much right as the guys coming from the north. If boats would follow basic traffic rules and use the zipper effect it would make for a smooth transition to the ramp.

Have all your gear onboard and ready to roll, get your crew on the boat b4 launching. Get in the water, back into the turning zone and wait for your driver to park the vehicle......nose into the pier when your guy get there and then get underway....reverse when recovering.

and yes...if they had another ramp somewhere like over in Croaton it would definately help out but I don't think the fine folks over there would want all that traffic going through their neighborhood !.......

Good luck to all fishing the tournament....see you at the Captains meeting....Still Think'n is fishing Friday and Saturday....Bob

I was there Sat morning around 8am. After waiting in line for 30 minutes a guy cut in front of the guy that was in front of me from the left turn lane. Within 30 seconds people were getting out of there cars ready to kill the guy. action-smiley-025.gif

After they exchanged words with the guy, and threatened to destroy his truck and trailer it was over.

What a nightmare.......
Hawkins001
Sounds like a zoo. Makes me glad my boat is in a marina.
Knot Too Fast
Go to Lynnhaven and use one of the three or four ramps over there. Fifteen minutes in the car plus 30 minutes of boat ride to avoid a 2 hour nightmare is worth it. I launched out of LC on Sunday: 0715 at the ramp, 0720 boat in the water and underway (being able to launch at the base helps here), 0800 ish lines in off the Ramada.

Brett, lets keep this on the down low. Next thing we know there will be an hour wait at Owls creek and an hour wait at Lynnhaven. biggrin.gif Seriously I launched out of there on Saturday and same thing, in/out in 15 minutes. Best its been all year. Hope it stays that way.

Agree with putting in at Lynnhaven, although somewhat inconvenient (Longer boat ride to the beach), it is alot less stressful and quicker. Also, in most cases, quicker when your ready to trailer your boat.

I put in at Lynnhaven Saturday, it was uneventful at the ramp. Unfortunately it was also uneventful fishing cry_smiley.gif

Some of these guys need a little more practice backing a trailer to the rampand be just a tad more deligent loading up.......saw one hand back his trailer in to the dock not once but twice sat. .The real kicker is his buddy was directing him........................

HATE ME IF YOU WANT, BUT THE RAMP SHOULD OPEN TO VIRGINIA BEACH CITIZENS FIRST. OF COURSE YOU WILL SAY VDGIF PAYS FOR THE RAMP, BUT I NEVER SEE VDGIF SPREADING NEW ROCKS ON THE PARKING LOT, CLEANING OUT THE PORTY POTTIES, OR EMPTYING THE TRASH CANS. THE CITY OF VB DOES THIS. IT SUCKS BEING A VB TAXPAYER AND NOT BEING ABLE TO USE THE RAMP. ALSO, IF YOU DON'T THINK I AM THE KIND OF PERSON NOT WILLING TO SHOW UP 4AM YOU'RE WRONG.
hoverpilot
I do not know what everyone is getting so worked up about I see this kind of thing all of the time. BUT then again I am patrolling the streets of Baghdad right now and they all have AK-47's and RPG's so I guess the road rage is catching on every where.

Can't wait to get back and see it at the ramp next year instead of here, Stay safe out there on the water and at the ramp.

One thing I've noticed is the traffic pattern has changed around the ramps themselves. The way the ramp was designed, and originally functioned was after you turned off General Booth into the lot, you bear to the right to launch. This takes you all the way around the back of the trailer parking to the right side of the ramp and allows for 20 or so boats in line in the parking area before spilling out into the street. The left turn everyone uses now was for picking up boats and later for trailers heading to the overflow lot to exit. I wasn't there the day in question, but I sure have seen it on other days. Better directional signage might help.
