I attended the Saltwater Sportsman Seminar Series in New Bern, NC on Saturday. Met Dave (BillableOurs) and a Corps friend of his at the show. Overall it was informative but not much new for us old salts. I highly recommend this seminar series for beginner to intermediate anglers. There were a few little tidbits that I think might be worth sharing.

- Cedar Plugs are designed to be soaked in menhaden oil to add scent to the lure.
That sure will make my tackle bag smell in the summer! I will, however, tie a
new cedar plug daisy chain just to soak in menhaden oil. In triple ziplocks!
- The colored cedar plugs are to catch fishermen. Stick with the naturals.
They sure caught me! I have a couple dozen!
- Overall, purple and black is the best color combo for all species.
The only thing I have that's purple and black is my hindparts on a rough day
in my old Wellcraft!
- Never leave fish to find fish. Ok, Ok, we already knew that. I just wanted to
reiterate it.

Did get to talk to George Poveromo for a while. He is still interested in making an appearance at this year's Bluewater Classic, but his time is not his own so we'll have to see about that. All in all it was fun and worth the trip. Now that will be $55.00 please!

Thanks George....The only Cedar plugs I have are natural....they are fantastic for schoolie Blue Fin and Mahi.....Cool idea soaking them in Menhaden Oil....Think I'm gonna give that a shot...tkts for the tips...Bob

Thanks for the info, especially about soaking them in menhaden oil. Such a simple idea, but I would have never thought of it. Another glittering example of beauty in simplicity! Geez, the cedar plug itself a pretty simple lure... go figure!

Another small tip on cedar plugs. Pull the leader tight horizontilly, slide the cedar plug up the leader some and spin it. Whatever side lands down is where the hook is supposed to be facing. They have somewhat of a weighted keel built in to them.

The first tuna I have ever caught in my life was last year on a red/white cedar plug. Most of our tuna bites came on a purple and black jr. illander daisy chain behind 3 moldcraft 6" pink squid last year. I fish 2 rods w/ this combo now. Sooner or later all of it works I think.

Thanks for sharing the info. Pete (Shore Thing) really likes to keep a cedar plug out at all times (3 plug nat chain in flats or single at shorts). I generally try to talk him out of it! He'll be glad to hear he's right again....the big boys are using them! I'll just tell him I thought up the oil thing myself (he don't do computers) lol.
