Need help!! Can someone who knows the bay REALLY good, or has GPS, tell me how far I went in my boat, in miles of course, and as accurate as possible.
Saturday went from Lynnhaven boat ramp to cape henry. Trolled to Dam Neck, then back to cape henry, then trolled until in front of the Ramada, then back to the boat ramp.
I am having some issues with my gas guage/amounts, and trying to calculate my MPG and GPH I was using. All I need are the miles, I will do the rest of the calculations myself, its just I don't have a GPS yet.
Thanks,
Johnny

Navman 2100 fuel computer, Paid 100 bucks for mine. No guess work.
When you get your GPS you can then look at speed and figure out the best rpm and trim for the best economy.

I have been thinking about getting on of them
All I can find are the NorthStar units.
Are they the same??
How easy is it to change the functions?? Only two buttons

not sure about the North star I just got a Navman 2100 the end of last year and love it. on my trip sat. it said i used 20 gal I put 19 in the boat
gps said I ran 39 nautical miles. they are easy to use just have to zero it out before each trip or keep up with the running total. payed $75 off of e-bay for mine
money will spent.

That looks like something cheap and easy to install...might have to get one because my gas guage SUCKS. I used about 5 gallons I think, and the guage started jumping from E to F, and nothing in between. I was just praying that the guys on thehulltruth.com were right in that I have a 42 gallon tank. I still don't know how much fuel I really used until I fill my tank back up though.
I just don't know how I am going to run the wires under the deck with the others.

http://www.movable-type.co.uk/scripts/latlong.html put in the Lat and long and it will give you your distance in Kilometer then you can convert to nautical miles
no guess work there

Fuel guages are notoriously unreliable.
Set your chart plotter distance meter to "0" before each trip and refill the boat from full each trip - recording the gallons and calculating the miles per gallon. This fuel curve will give a pretty good idea of your range, if you do it over a number of trips. Watch the sea state in making fuel/range decsions.Heavy seas can double your fuel consumption.

How far is it from Owl Creek landing to the Reserch pier in Duck? We made that run yesterday and burned 37 gallons with several stops on the way.

my cousin and I both run the Navman fuel flow meter and it works like a champ. Only costs about $100 and was real easy to install.

My last CC had a wire chase (pvc pipe) under the deck. It came with a rope already run thru it so you could pull new wiring, etc. Just make sure to also tie another piece of rope or heavy mono along w/ the wire to pull the rope back after the wires are pulled thru.

+1 on the gps. I have one on my boat but I didn't take the time to go back through my route and figure the distance. I was hoping someone knew how far it was to the Duck pier...save me some trouble.

This is just an estimate -but I think it's about 35 miles from Rudee. I am told it is 38 miles from Oregon Inlet to the Research Pier. I know when I run down to hatteras tthe Pier is a little less than half way to Oregon Inlet. I'll check it on my boat's plotter at the marinia tommorrow and let you know.

Thanks. Someone said the Duck pier was 26 miles from OI. I may just go check my trail on the GPS!

If your trying to figure out how far you can go on a tank of fuel that is the wrong way to go about it. Trolling burns less fuel than running.

Like gig said.
Now if you get a navman 2100 fuel computer, you can look at GPH at any RPM and chart it.
