With Dave Boyce recently joining his son Chris as a Virginia Saltwater Master Angler with his catch of a citation-sized speckled trout, I got to wondering about other father/son Master Angler combinations.

Off the top of my head, I know of Richard and Brandon Bartlett. Brandon was/is a nut. By 12, he could have worked the cockpit of any boat. He earned his first Expert Award at age 6 and was a Master by age 8. Both records I do not expect to see beaten ever.

I asked Claude and Lewis about it. Of course, no records like this are kept. Claude could not come up with anybody. He could think of some likely candidates for father/son experts but no masters. Lewis has not been there very long but looking over the records he found: Lance Poulter and Michael Poulter but he did not know how they are related.

Anyway, it is a neat thing, congrats Dave and Chris. I’m sure that there will be others. Charles and Hunter Southall will be joining you soon.
