filled up with gas at sunset expecting to run around cape henry,got just passed hrbt headed toward 1st island of cbbt and stated seeing gannets diving all around in 12ft of water. my buddy mike said he doesnt care if keeps any fish lets see what happens. so in such shallow water we just put in a little strech 11 & a shallow yo-zuri. instantly we started nailing fish all from 28 to 40" with a couple of nicer fish straighting out the trebles. which by the way both of us got trebles in the hand, i have to give mike props, his didnt come out we had to cut the hook leaving the barb under the skin. but he kept fishing for a couple more hours. back to the dock at noon with a FULL tank of gas and all the fish you could c & r.

Great Report! Last Tuesday I saw miles of big menhaden from CBBT to Ocean View Beach. On Saturday I couldn't find them anywhere, thought I was going crazy, that much bait can't just disappear. It sounds like the bait and fish just went back up the bay a bit. I'd like to see them hit Cape Henry. Again thanks for the Report.

Are you allowed to throw the castnet on those menhaden??

Isn't it legal year round to castnet in the bay and ocean front?

Your saltwater license allows you to throw cast net to get baitfish for personal use.

Just make sure you do not throw on the American Shad (protected) illegal to touch, big fine. Glad to here the migration seems to be started for the Menhaden

Are american shad illegal to touch or illegal to keep? I know we fish for them with ultralight tackle when they run up the potomac river... There's tons of people out fishing for them.
