To All:
Don't know how many have seen this link, but I found it very informative.

http://www.chesapeake-angler.com/wrecks.htm

Hope this helps some of the new Shesapeake/Virginia anglers like myself.

I tried a few off the list myself...no good. They may be good loran numbers but they are converted to GPS which can put them off by 1/2 mile. Getting to within a 1/2 mile is generally not close enough to find a wreck unless you get lucky or spend the afternoon hunting. People work hard for numbers and you will not see people posting their numbers on the internet. I only have a small handful myself.

I don't have any, I wish. Might wanna try a capt seagull chart, or the VMRC artificial reef website.

Here are the artificial reefs.

Not just a few, it is a much larger percentage (incorrect/suck). That's a good try CW, I wish someone had given me good wreck #'s on the internet, it would have saved me a lot of gas and time. Just the replies from above that this list is not worth the time has helped you immensely, that is 3 hours or so that you can do something else smile.gif

ketchup my sim card died and i lost all my phone #s - call me this weekend
SALTY LADY
Since the GPS numbers are off, what about the LORAN numbers? Are they accurate?
Ketchup
Most of my #'s are in GPS, but the Loran #'s that I checked from my machine (good #'s) were off an average of 400 yds. I didn't check a whole lot of the Loran stuff though. It seems that most of these lists (that list Loran and GPS) are usually one column of good (or at least close) #'s, and the other column is a conversion, which is pretty much worthless. Sometimes the Loran is the good column, but it is usually the GPS stuff that has been contributed to the list as fished on, at least most of the stuff that I have.

If you want good number for wrecks and other locations, try the local dive shops, they usually have some good numbers along with information as to fish population. Just a thought......

Its sad that very few will share good numbers. Especially for basic wrecks like the triangles, brass spike, etc. I can understand holding your numbers to a relatively undiscovered wreck, but the unwillingness of so many people to share is a shame. I was trying to put together a site similar to this one with numbers for beginners, but I havent found a local dive shop or fisherman (other than skinnys-kid and a rare few others) that will part with any accurate numbers. Most have tried to lead me on a wild goose chase to be a$$e$. Sad for our sport and people in general.

Does anyone know if these numbers are any good? I just found this site, and havent gotten to check them yet.

I don't find it sad at all. I don't know anyone who was just handed a set a valid, verified numbers. Everyone I know had to verify them on their own by burning hundreds of gallons of gas to get there and search out the wreck or drop location. I guess you want for free that everyone else had to spend thousands of dollars in fuel costs and countless hours searching.

I've heard that site has some that are innacurate. I'm not sure which ones but the ones I have used were fine.

I would and do gladly give info away that has taken my years and tons of money to obtain to better the sport and bring some new interest and enthusiasm. It has nothing to do with money. You cant take it with you. Its about enjoying the great time that I have on the water, and wanting to help anyone who is interested get started into this great sport. I again said I dont expect those secret numbers, but the typical ones shouldnt be a big deal. People like skinnys-kid make there living on these numbers, but he has often given out basic numbers without a questions. That is how it should be. So sit on your numbers, and I will continue to try and keep people having fun and enjoying the water and everything it brings.

id have to agree with Mike- anyone that has any really good #s has put in the time and the effort. it doesnt take long to figure out when u give em out, they will be given out again. lo and behold ur secret spot of slaying now has ur buddies boat and three of his friends boats on it. id imagine u will have a lot more luck just asking for some #s to well known wrecks like the cape henry wreck etc. ask for one # not a list. nobody is going to just come out and hand u a list, especially if u r thinking about publishing it on the web.
